Hi Mark, FYI: you can pair an enhanced remote with the Premiere even though you don't get one in box, the box itself has the hardware to use an RF remote. The packaging configuration is just so they can sell it cheaper, and they won't tell you that you can pair the other remote so people buy the more expensive configurations. To pair an enhanced remote open the battery cover on the remote and press the pairing button so the LED flashes then use the included IR remote navigate to settings system restart to reboot the Premiere. The enhanced remote should pair on restart. By the way if the said remote is paired with another unit, unplug that one first. You can also buy an additional enhanced remote from ROKU as well, if the remote you have is needed for the other unit. Have a great day, and hope you are able to use this tip.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm currently using my Premiere with a Logitech Harmony universal remote by IR, but it's good to know that I can pair an enhanced remote in the future if I need to.

Hey Mark, As Mentioned, I put the Remote in pairing mode, then power cycled the ROKU. The Remote was detected on startup. As far as I remember, the option wasn't there until the remote paired on startup.

Clinton W Salvato got it! Guess I didn't fully read your first reply. Worked like a charm. Going to try swapping my Premiere for my Roku 3 in the living room. Been having some flickering / DHCP handshake issues with my Yamaha receiver and hoping the Premiere works better.

Glad to hear it! Just remember, if you want to do it again in the future, if you're using a Remote already paired, or if you have multiple ROKU units, unpower all but the one you want to pair to avoid conflicts. (especially for the previously paired remote)

Mark david, which one has the most good and free apps? Is it roku or fire tv? I am between the two to decide to buy, I am between the roku ultra 4k and the fire tv cube, which has more options of applications of films, TV channels and series?

For me personally, I love Roku. Been a Roku household since 2011. (I'm not paid by Roku, by the way - just kind of a fanboy.) I have one on every TV in my house (probably 6 right now). Usually once per year I get a new one for my main "home theater" room and shuffle the rest through the house, weeding out the oldest one in the process. They usually have really good Black Friday sales so that's when I upgrade. This year, I pulled the trigger on a Roku Ultra 4K HDR model to replace my Roku Premiere from this video. I typically only get the ones with Ethernet ports on them since I have my house wired for gigabit and wi-fi in my house can be tricky at times (obstructions in my home plus like 20 Wi-Fi SSIDs in my neighborhood). I've stayed with Roku throughout the years because they seem to have the most robust platform of streaming apps, the interface is very intuitive, the hardware gets better every year and they're sold pretty much everywhere. That said, I have yet to try a Fire TV device. Call me paranoid, but I'd rather buy into a fairly neutral platform like Roku rather than hardware tied so closely to the biggest retailer on the planet. Amazon's noted spats with Google and not having KZbin on FireTV for so long kind of soured me on it. Truth be told, if I were ever to go with another streaming device, it would *maybe* be an Apple TV but more as a supplemental thing rather than my "daily driver." There are a few apps and small things like screen mirroring that I like about Apple TV but similarly to Amazon, I don't want to be fully bought into the Apple ecosystem either. I was somewhat intrigued by Amazon's TiVo-like DVR device they're rolling out and how it works with Fire TV devices in other rooms, but I'm still not there just yet. Just love my Rokus too much. When and if I upgrade TVs next, I would definitely look at getting a Roku TV actually.
