Unboxing the Rolex Explorer (224270) and Comparing it to the Air-King (126900)

I purchased the Air-King a few days ago. I like the sporty look with the flat sides, the crown guard and the colors. Not very exited about the many numbers, but I still like it more than the Explorer and much more than an OP. It's something special.

For the more dressier purpose I expect to get a Datejust 41 Jubilee + Wimbledon till end of the year from the AD, so I can cover almost all needs with these 2 watches.

In person, I preferred the Air King because of the green on the dial, and I liked the flatter sides rather than the "roundedness" of the Explorer. It's actually good to check out the demo pieces at your AD.

Right now I am torn between the two, but leaning towards the Explorer. Most Rolex's (except the Oyster Perpetual) scream "look at me", which is not my style. The Air King does it by being quirky, but it still feels like it's shouting a bit. I'm also a big fan of applied indices. They add depth to the dial, and with Rolex I'm pretty sure they are made from gold with a lume fill.

Would you now rate the explorer 40mm over the sub? I l Iike more subtle watches for my job in general with the public. I love the opportunity to see these side by side and to see the 40mm on your wrist, given our similar wrists.

Yess definitive the explorer!! I love the air Kong but when i must pay it i would take the explorer so i did it😂 its the cooler watch for every situation and clothings. But i like the crownguards on the airking.

Rolex... Where is the white dial?.. and for the 40mm version, please move the Explorer text back to the southern part of the dial right above the superlative chrono writing. Yes, just like the previous 39. Thanks for the vid, man.

Explorer for me! The air king is far too busy for me and looks somewhat gimmicky. The explorer is far more versatile.

For the most part I agree but I also love the green and yellow Rolex logo on the dial. It’s the only watch in their lineup with it. The Explorer is definitely a more versatile watch though.

Seems like the 36mm explorer hype is dying, 39/40 is still the way to go for modern explorer, 36mm is obsolete in the modern world for sport watches.

Something looks wrong with the Air King, I think there is too much dial and the bezel too slim, it was perfect on the older model which I think is more beautiful.
