As a fellow, yet recent, skin cancer surviver-with facial Mohls surgery about a year ago, I stubbled on your channel while research "real" hats to reduce sun exposure on my face here in sunny NJ. Love it.. You are great! I purchased the Milan Stratoliner in Cognac from that review-it is a stunning colorway-so thank you. I've since ordered it in black as well. Sized down as suggested for both and they're perfect for my big pointy melon. I do wish they were a bit more long-oval but for the price.......I was about to order the Sand colorway, MIlan version, when this review popped up... Going to order the hemp natural. So while my wallet will curse you for a few months, I, again, thank you! All the best. Keep doing what you're doing....

I love the hat and it doesn’t look too big to me. I have a felt Stetson Roadster, that is no longer in production, that looks very similar to the Stratoliner. I need a new straw hat and I am seriously considering the Stratoliner. I do appreciate your review. Also, I lost enough weight that I lost a full hat size and so have used the hat sizers in all my hats. Like you said, they do work well. I considered the weather stripping but I couldn’t find any that were as wide as the hat sizers. Personally, I enjoy all parts of your reviews, keep them coming.

4 comments (3 are questions) - 1) I know each hat is not wool or felt but there are no crown vents. So, would you consider each a summer hat? 2) Which material would be more durable if wore in rain? 3) The two companies I bought hats from sent free hat sizers with the hat. Lastly, I recently bought a maroon fedora but even though my family likes it, I feel funny wearing a hat of that color. What is your opinion about hat colors other than brown, black or tan? BTW...I saw your blue cowboy hat episode.
@historynerdsmancave75675 ай бұрын
1.) It is very much a summer hat as it is lightweight and hemp is known for being both antibacterial and does not hold odors from perspiration. 2.) This hat would be fine in the rain, and I would also suggest the Rushmore palm straw fedora that I reviewed. 3.) My hats are all tan, brown, and white, and I do have a couple of dark green hats, but this is the first time I've stepped into the bright color realm. My basic advice is to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you think it looks good, wear it, but if not, don't. Thanks for watching.

I thought I would comment, not my practice to do so, but I do love hats..... So, I keep thinking about the shape of your head and torso, and kindly offer, that to me a 3-inch brim fits your stature much better than a 2 or 2.5-inch brim. You have a long face referring to the cheeks, and the proportion of the brim should fit the face shape. Now, it's your call, often, in person it looks different than in photos, or on KZbin. Lighting affects how it is perceived. Outside is a natural light as opposed ot inside. I'm always surprised how great my art looks in a photo, but then I look at it in real life and it is different. One big question is "function" or "style" with your hats? I have a twenty-two-inch beard (from tip of my chin) and find that the 3-inch brim suits me well. It also keeps those darn LED (brite as hell) lights out of my eyes much better than the 2.5-inch brim hats I wear when in a coffee shop. Point is, my face is long with my beard, so I go with a large-brimmed hat. Keep it coming, talk-it-up.
@historynerdsmancave75675 ай бұрын
I don't disagree that a bigger brim fits a big guy like me. I often wear my Stetson Rancher cowboy hat, which is the largest hat Stetson currently makes...or at least in my size. When I wear a suit and tie at work, I wear my Open Road or my Stratoliner, which are dressier hats, but one is 2 3/4 and one is 2 1/2. They just don't make wide brim dress hats that I've been able to find in my size.

Question about Stetson hemp. I have two hemps, a black Stratoliner and just acquired a navy Open Road, should I avoid wearing them if there’s a good chance of rain or are they rain hardy?
@historynerdsmancave75673 ай бұрын
Hemp hats are not recommended to wear in the rain nor are hats made of Shantung straw, which is basically pressed paper. As noted in my newest video, which is about the Jason Aldean Amarillo Sky hat by Resistol, hats made from palm straw do exceptionally well in the rain. I wore my Stetson Square palm straw cowboy hat during an all-day rain at a music festival, and it held its shape and kept me dry the entire time.

@historynerdsmancave75675 ай бұрын
The 48 and 75 are the profile numbers that Stetson uses internally. Google "Stetson profiles" and you will find graphics that explain the differences between them. As best I can tell, the 75 has a narrower cattleman's crease and the shape of the brim is more curved while the 48 has a wide crease in the crown and less brim curve. According to Stetson, the 75 is their most popular and bestselling hat profile.

If the “natural” color hemp Stratoliner were available in the giant 7-3/4 size that I need, I would’ve gotten that one instead, but after a few months of checking, the “sage” green was consistently the only one in my size, so I finally pulled the trigger.
