Manufacturers should always test and list T/S parameters. It is sheer laziness not to as it does not take all that long. And it is not like they are coming out with products multiple times a year.

Iv got both the X8'"s and SAv3 8"s and Sav2 8"s... And I know this because I own em I have em now I use em.. and the SAv3 8" sounds better than the X8"... Period there isn't any argument on that the SAv3 8" plays lows better it's more clear crisp and does play lows better louder ect... And those 8"s are not no joke they can handle more power than 99% of the 8"s out.. they are basically unrivaled period.. the kickers are cool n all but those Sa8"s and X8"s power wise are untouchable. I know this because Iv done tested em against other subs... And Z series 8" is coming next.... And the nightshade 8" is already in testing... And that nightshade 8" very well be the loudest and meanest 8" ever built.

When all you can fit is an 8 or two you’ll appreciate a good 8. But don’t expect it to sound like a 10 or 12 you’ll be disappointed. I predict 2022 better 8’s will be out there from reputable companies. I only buy custom subs cause I’m luck enough to have one semi close to my area. Or contact robot underground

It’s all in what you want.. people that use 8’s do so for specific reason.. they listen to all kinds of music and want a right responsive speaker. You can do this with larger sealed boxes as well. However then you give up a little boomieness on the low end for those types of tracks. What a lot of people do that want both low end but don’t want to sacrifice sound quality across all types of music is go with 8’s and out them in a reflex box tuned to mid 30’s. 35-36 usually. You do this cause 8’s are super tight already and always going to be quick hitting and responsive. You can put them in a sight oversize reflex and keep that will getting as low as 10’s and way cleaner then 12’s. Now the reason he’s using l7’s is because by being square his 8’s are already pushing the same surface area a most 10’s take into account the different surface areas on the cone this further increase physical surface area.. l7 8’s in reality are more like 10.8” subs if you run the calculations. (This is also why you see textured cones aka more texture vs smooth results in more surface space in same size.. this is why you see raised logos, but invented dust caps etc.. ever aspect of then design is to increase surface area. A cone has more area then a circle for example. A bowl holds more food then a plate the same size) it’s all relative to design and size is not a linear to output as most think it is. You sacrifice response the larger you go and frequency the smaller you go. You can compensate by going small sealed on bigger speakers or large ported with smaller. End of the day you are more or less accomplishing the exact same thing in two very different ways.. There is one other thing to note.. 8’s are purpose built.. 12’s are purpose built.. 10’s are normally not.. most of them are just downsized versions of the same model 12. Which means across a given line up the 8 will outperform the 10 while the 10 will never be like the 10. You won’t see many pros go with 10’s they will go down or up but they specifically try to stray away from 10’s for this reason. They are the step child of every lineup.. some 15’s are this way too.. just a 12” design made larger.. it’s why some 15’s really have a hard time outperforming 12’s. And this is why we came across things like 13.5’s decades ago.. it allowed for better 15’s will keeping manufacturing on the 12”s side finding a happy medium between the two

@@fishrrelaxing9361 right on. This is why I want to get into making drivers for a hobby and to get more knowledge about drivers and also to help educate those who care to learn more to get more of what they want.
@fishrrelaxing9361
@fishrrelaxing9361 2 жыл бұрын
@@workingclassperson2124 I thing the actual driver is less important then the actual cone design myself.. I’ve seen way too many $80-90 12” subs on 2” coils and 80-90oz magnets outperform 2.5” 140oz mag speakers cause they made better use of the power given to them with a better cone design increases actual surface volume. We always get caught up talking about surface area.. we are using 2d soecs in a 3d world.. speakers should be rated by cone volume not surface area.. If I were going to try and design a sub.. I think my first try would be a very deep basket with a very concave speaker with a very large dust cap.. I would make the cone out of pressed paper which is super light and easy to texture. (It’s why most high output speakers are more or less this design lol.. like sundowns.. pressed w texture and large cap) Orion’s.. older v1 jls.. all very similar designs.. Once I had that cone I wanted I would work on having the strongest but least dampened suspension I could.. and put all this with a simple 1990’s 2” DVC at 4ohm not dual 2.. with no larger then a 100oz magnet.. with a 2” you don’t need more then that.. I’d then work on a good surround and extension parameter.. this where my knowledge kinda falls off a little.. But a 32mm excursion on 2k watts with 84db response is not going to put perform a 24mm on 350watts with a 92bd response.. I mean technically it will after you drop more in power then audio equipment.. but your ear would hardly notice the difference snd the meter gains would be Min.. These companies out here pushing 2.5” VC speakers on 1000k as a std are lying to everyone. You’ll get maybe 1.5db more from that $800 speaker vs a $100 speaker with 250rms that is lighter and looser.. Here is what we know.. speakers like deep boxes.. width and height needs nothing lire then enough to support the size of the speaker and the cutouts.. for a Ho box you put all the cubes behind the speaker.. reflex or sealed or 4th or Tline, 6th order 8th order idc what box you use.. this is just facts.. (it’s why Jl HO boxes and even bazooka love or hate them.. Bluetooth speakers you name them.. the companies that have prefab boxes that perform well are deep per given driver..) old school guys used sealed chambers between each sub as narrow and deep as possible.. this is actually where we started inverting the drivers facing the top of vehicles ages ago cause it allowed more box per speaker. So given this I would make the nose use of said type boxes and design the deepest cone I could.. a small deep bowl holds just as much cereal and milk as a large shallow one.. you could build a 12” that acts like a 12” but hits like an 18” and uses a box the width and height of a 12 but depth of a 15.. What kills me is the industry has know this for 30 or so years.. in fact we should be running dual 8 VC speakers and getting the most from half bridge bot full bridge amps or a/b amps bridged.. this Brazilian amp fad to do full bridge micro sized mono block amps is complete stupid outside the world of a dedicated spl vehicle.. to this day I’ll hold my option that other then the Jl slash series amps of 20 years ago that run on 12v not 14v power the best amos ever made are the old Phoenix gold amps.. they were large for a reason.. cleaner more usable power wo impedance rise.. I’ve seen guys get close to 160db running these things with proper power and cables to just 4 12” $89 Walmart subs rated to 150 rms.. is an 8cub sealed box facing upwards in the truck of a civic.. we don’t need 4K speakers and 15k full bridge anos the size of a cell phone.. we just need efficient drivers with good cone designs and clean power to them in a proper box per these first two parameters.. if you’re under powered you use a larger box.. if over powered and clean power use a smaller box.. you’ll need that back pressure to keep the driver from overextending on a weaker magnet and tearing itself apart.. all these 150-200oz speakers are because somewhere along the line we forgot how to build a proper box for given speakers and the companies over compensated cause they didn’t want bad boxes to blow their speakers from over excursion or bottoming out.. Short story.. we have regressed for the last 20 years at least.. I’d argue 30 in the industry.. we need higher ohm speakers that are lighter and more responsive and more efficient. Instead we get 82db 200oz mags and speakers that need a home generator to power. It’s a money game.. and all these people buying those cheap skar audio packages.. throw this boxes away have a real box builder build you a proper sealed box for those speakers. They all prefer sealed boxes. They sending out 5/8” faced reflect boxes. This things would hit so much louder and cleaner in a 1.25 cubic net sealed box with a doubled face and 3/4” back and sides.. you lose sooo much output from box flex on a 5/8” box idc how it’s tuned or how well it’s made for those speakers.. all you running 2 evl 12”’s in that package setup.. stop it. Throw those things in a sealed box separate chambers at 1.25 net each chamber and face those boxes forward.. you’ll gain 2db and have a much better sounding speaker and be able to play a broader range of misic. And yea I know the evl per spec is listed to be 1.75 sealed that is garbage spec.. if it slams like it does in a 2cube reflex box it will be perfect in a 1.25 sealed.. make the box deep and narrow.. thank me later

I've done business with Audio Apex and I can say they have been great to deal with. There CAB amplifiers are excellent units also. A sub I would like to have is available at Directronix as the retro re release ferrite NSv3"s there building,(there new retro re release hot rodded ZV4s are cool too) reason being is it's badass but out of the norm, ZV5/V6 great n all but you see them everywhere! I'm a proponent of underdogs so a discontinued model that runs with the current flagship has my vote, it has a coolness factor plus people will say that's not an X or a V what's that? . I've never owned a sundown sub and I'm not fanboy by any means, I feel they build a great product like many better than some but that dust cap logo drives the price more than I can justify spending that's why these NSV3s are "want" subs and I just keep building subs for about half of what they cost retail and it's fun as hell.

I’ve been expecting something similar to this with all the exposure you’ve been giving those l7’s.. sundown is not the comparison I would be making to the l7 q’d though. L7’s I think are a lot tighter in responsiveness. I think w6’s might have been more appropriate. Keep in mind I’m going 6’s over 7’s cause the cost from l7 to w7 is significant even if the w6 to l7 is really comparing speakers designed for slightly different purposes. 8’s a tough comparison though.. personally I like tighter more responsive speakers in reflex boxes to get a little more lows while not losing that tight response sound quality. I’m not sure this is the right comparison though.. looking forward to finding out though. That smaller magnet explains the 2.25vc.. don’t need a bigger magnet that way. Interested to see how in first at peak power though cause it seems like maybe it’s not quite enough to control a 2.25 unless this thing is very very tight.. it can be done and I’m sure sundown worked though out but I won’t be surprised if it’s over pushes a little and loses control on the top end of power.. if she that tight then she’s going to love a slightly small reflex box to get low while staying responsive

The Slash series amps are extremely strong and I've had several but You could likely run a considerable amount more on power on two these subs. I ran my TWO x8v3s on a skar rp3500 at 0.5 ohm. I could occasionally bottom them out but it never damaged them and they did really, really well. ran that setup for several months before upgrading.
