THIS WEEK’S FEATURED WATCH
Rolex President Day-Date ref. 228348 Green Dial
Find the Rolex 228348 for sale here: www.bobswatches.com/rolex-day...
ABOUT THIS WATCH: The Rolex Presidential came to market in 1956. In addition to featuring the jump date mechanism invented by Rolex, the Presidential was also the first mechanical wristwatch to display the day spelled out in full on the dial, never abbreviated.
The iconic President bracelet with semi-circular links also debuted that year alongside the Day-Date and has largely been exclusive to the collection, save for a few women’s models.
The Day-Date has always featured a yellow gold finish and a 36mm case from day one. However, it has since expanded to include other precious metal options and elaborate design elements.
THE DAY-DATE II
Rolex experimented with larger case sizes within the Day-Date collection in 2008 via the Day-Date II. Featuring a 41mm case and the then-new caliber 3156 perpetual movement, it was unlike any other model in the Rolex catalog at the time. As always, there was plenty of room for improvement.
THE DAY-DATE 40
Fast-forward to 2015 and the release of the Day-Date 40, the Day-Date II’s predecessor. It swapped the 41mm case for a more refined 40mm diameter and introduced the Rolex catalog to a new movement, the caliber 3255.
Ref. 228348 debuted in 2015 alongside the then-new 40mm collection in a handful of classic dial colors, including black, champagne, and silver.
However, the example we have here sports the legendary Rolex green dial.
Featuring a factory diamond bezel, a solid 18k yellow gold finish, and a vibrant green dial, this model is the epitome of luxury and class. It has a bold presence on the wrist yet is still somehow elegant and sophisticated - perfect for the modern collector.
The sharply faceted Roman numeral hour markers reflect the light beautifully as the wrist moves and are alternated with the stick indices to keep the dial cleaner and more symmetrical. The lack of luminescent material allows the dial to embrace an ultra-dressy aesthetic to match the gold and diamond design elements.
Outstanding design aside, this Day-Date is a testament to Rolex’s technological prowess. It boasts the next-generation caliber 3255 Perpetual movement with the Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers, impressive 70-hour power reserve, accuracy up to -2/+2 seconds per day, and Double Quickset for the day and date.
We hope you enjoyed unboxing this absolute masterpiece with us today.
