I think what is going on with the hips has to do with manufacturing. From what I understand, parts are not created one piece at a time; multiple parts are made at the same time on a "runner" or a "sprue" (like in model kits, where there is extra plastic connecting multiple parts together, and you have to snip the parts off to build the kit). The hips were just part of the same runner as other black parts like the knees. If you look carefully at Onslaught, Hotspot, and Pyra Magna, you will notice that the hips are always the same color as the knee joint. Hasbro probably wanted the knees to be black, which had the side effect of making the hips black, and as a result they just painted the front of the hips tan (same situation for Onslaught, and Hotspot did not have this issue since he was the original mold, so they purposely paired the knee joints and hip parts in one sprue for Hotspot specifically). The lack of paint for the back of the hips is just a cost-saving measure. Just wanted to share my take on what is going on behind the scenes given my experience with Gundam model kits and knowledge of how the manufacturing process for these toys is basically selling a pre-built and painted model kit. (Another fun fact, if you look closely on some transformers, you can see the white stress mark numbs where they cut the part from the sprue). Fun watching your unboxings/reviews. Epic review Sixo!!!!! Ectotron is one of my all time favorite Transformers figures. It amazes me how few parts he has taken from his mold mate Combiner Wars Hot Spot. Keep on being amazing.

I find it funny that this guy scales more with Masterpiece rather than the Generations line (at least going by the scale of the comic).

One thing that's not pointed out that I've been hearing from some is that because this figure has alot of rubber there's a real danger of them becoming brittle over time like with ROTF Buldgeon. Me I don't see it as a big deal as while it would lose screen-accuracy the top kit still pegs in to the top of the car so it wouldn't be a total loss but it's still worth pointing out.

I’ve had the figure for over 2 years, almost 3 now, and have played with it a lot and haven’t had any issue with rubber tearing. There’s been some minor paint chipping, but nothing major.

I have this one myself, and despite the lean articulation of the Combiner Wars Onslaught mold, it does feel like it's got a good range. It was fairly priced as well, and that vehicle mode was perfect. Can't be mad at it at all 😁
