The 4, 5, 6, 8 setting isn't for how toasted you want it :). Its for how thick the toast is... its common for bread here in Japan to be sold as 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 cut.. meaning that is how many slices you get per loaf. Higher numbers meaning you get more slices so the the individual slice is thinner. Given how thin the slice of bread you guys were toasting.. hope you had it on the 8 setting.

@nodezsh2 жыл бұрын
You know, you're right! Hadn't thought of that. Usually baked goods that need to be browned are either glazed with egg (for gold) or infused with sugar for the effect on this video. But that's because the regular bread is made to be toasted. It's trash otherwise. The only thing it has going for it is that it makes for a alright toast and is cheap.

The cheaper toaster heats with way higher temperature(because it's open design, if heated to slow the bread will dry out), the water in the bread's outer layer burned so quickly, so you can't see the vapor. I'm pretty sure the numbers on the Japanese toaster actually refer to the thickness of the bread - I was so confused when i bought bread there because the bread slices were so thick, then I realized the "4" "6" "8" on the bags referred to the thickness (that or number of slices, I can't remember, I think the 4 was the thickest?"

The short cable on the cheap toaster is actually mandated by the Canadian Electrical Code. Appliances in the kitchen generally have cords that are 0.9m so it's physically impossible for the toaster to fall into the sink because receptacles are not allowed to be placed less than 0.9m from the kitchen sink. Maximum spacing between receptacles is 1.8m so an appliance with a 0.9m cord can be located anywhere in that space.
