The 4, 5, 6, 8 setting isn't for how toasted you want it :). Its for how thick the toast is... its common for bread here in Japan to be sold as 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 cut.. meaning that is how many slices you get per loaf. Higher numbers meaning you get more slices so the the individual slice is thinner. Given how thin the slice of bread you guys were toasting.. hope you had it on the 8 setting.

@@monkeyrun Americans usually have a much better grasp on fractions. It's usually non Americans who just "can't fraction." They seem to think the only time that fractions are used is in construction and wood working. They have a much better understanding of fractions. I don't know what it is, whether non Americans aren't taught fractions or rational numbers, but their eyes go crossed when someone says 3 and 3/16 inches. Haven't seen anybody else comment on this. The premium bread wasn't as dark because it probably has less added sugar in the dough. You will see the same effect with a french bread that has 0 sugar versus a store bought loaf or a richer dough.

You know, you're right! Hadn't thought of that. Usually baked goods that need to be browned are either glazed with egg (for gold) or infused with sugar for the effect on this video. But that's because the regular bread is made to be toasted. It's trash otherwise. The only thing it has going for it is that it makes for a alright toast and is cheap.

The cheaper toaster heats with way higher temperature(because it's open design, if heated to slow the bread will dry out), the water in the bread's outer layer burned so quickly, so you can't see the vapor. While the expensive one heat bread with both infrared and surface contact, it's even and calculated. Perhaps with some timing program.

The short cable on the cheap toaster is actually mandated by the Canadian Electrical Code. Appliances in the kitchen generally have cords that are 0.9m so it's physically impossible for the toaster to fall into the sink because receptacles are not allowed to be placed less than 0.9m from the kitchen sink. Maximum spacing between receptacles is 1.8m so an appliance with a 0.9m cord can be located anywhere in that space.

3:23 is not for how you want the toast, in Japan, usually the bread is sold cut into, 4, 5, 6 or 8 slices. It’s about the thickness of the bread.

At first I was laughing at this... Who would spend that much on a toaster... Why would you ever need something like this.... now I cant stop thinking about spending that much on a toaster. And how much I need it in my life... I pulled my toast out of my current toaster oven this morning and looked disappointingly at the untoasted areas. Bit into it and was even more disappointed in the dryness and texture that i had never noticed before... WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME UNBOX THERAPY!!! lol
