An excellent, candid interview that answers vital questions that are as important today as well with regard to the morale and welfare of the Indian Armed Forces. The perspective of serving in the Army that Major-General Cardozo frames, is very important for decision-makers in the bureaucracy--both military and civilian--to understand and appreciate the dedicated personnel that India is extremely fortunate to have in her unique army.

With all Due Respect it hurts as a Nepali to see bollywood trying so hard to paint a picture of Gurkha as someone of such high ranking command to be a Gorkhali. It is as if Prince Harry became Gurkha for serving on a Gorkha brigade. I might sound like a nationalist but i feel like a real Gurkha are people of Nepali origin.

Nobody is denying the fact that Gurkha has its origin in Nepal. What the movie is projecting it's about the Indian Army Gurkha regiment where Maj IAN Cardoza has served and led a contingent. It is more about showing the glory and valor about the armymen served under the regiment. From the history of the regiment, the experience of the Gurkha regiment in 1971 war is being projected by Bollywood. No one is claiming that Major IAN Cardoza is a Gurkha, even we can make that out. People across the world should know how powerful Gurkha people are and the maximum armymen in the Gurkha regiment are Gurkhas. The suffix Bahadur was given to Sam Maneksaw by a Gurkha.

I understand your concern but I think it is very clearly understood amongst the audience that he is not a gorkha but an officer of the gorkha regt. The tradition of the Indian Army is such that the officers of the regiment take great pride in asimilating into the culture and traditions of the men they command to a great measure despite being from a different ethnic stock or religion. I have seen Sikh and Tamil officers from the gorkha regt speaking chaste gorkhali and celebrating desai the same way I've seen gorkha officers speaking chaste punjabi and marathi to their respective troops. I am a gorkha from Kurseong, Darjeeling whose 3 generation have and are serving in the army as officers. All the officers and men that I mentioned above, all have one thing in common that they are Indians first and everything else later, so your nationalist feelings are appreciated and accepted. I am also from Nepal but I do not support the narrow minded statement that real Gorkhas are only of Nepali origin. I want people to rise above petty regionalism. Anybody can become a Gorkha but he/she should have the courage and patience to spend time and learn the Nepali/Gorkhali culture and language. Once you start living and loving Gorkha , you become a Gorkha. It is not merely a birth right (although most are from Nepal and Nepali origin Indians) but one should also be great-hearted, kind, patient, polite, full of life and brave to be a Gorkha. Beware of few keyboard warriors who like to create division and hatred between people using the tool of nationalism in a wrong way.🇳🇵🤝🇮🇳
