So, are you saying, only use the poor man's version in this class, and later, when you're working, use the correct version? And, that correct version, I'm guessing, is instead of adding uncertainties you take the square root of the sum of the squares?

Also, say I have datas for x and y alongwith the respective uncertainities. If I have to plot x vs log y, then how do I calculate uncertainity in log y? For instance, if y= 54.3 +or - 0.5, then what will be log y?

For divisions and multiplications we add %uncertainty, b 1/10*100%=10% squaring b become 10%+10%= 20%
