ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Derek Lieu and I'm a trailer editor who makes video game trailers! I got my start in the movie trailer industry as an assistant editor at a house which produced trailers for: The Matrix Trilogy, Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean and many more.
Over many years I worked as an editor, and started making fan trailers for games until eventually I got jobs at game trailer houses in Los Angeles where I worked on games like Mortal Kombat X, Shadow of Mordor and lots of LEGO games. Independently I've made trailers for games like: Firewatch, Dead Cells, Subnautica, Ooblets and BattleBlock Theater.
I'm using this channel to teach people about the art of making trailers via video essays, tutorials, reviews, and behind-the-scenes looks at my own work. I think about trailers a lot both for work and fun, so I have A LOT to say about them.
I hope to shed light on this mostly unknown industry, and gather together a nice community of people who love to watch and make trailers!

YO, im 2 years late but holy shit. Was just watching a gameplay video where that soundtrack you used plays in the background and i said to myself "this music would be perfect for a trailer of this game" and your video came RIGHT THERE. this is so perfect, the way you angled the gameplay so it looks like a cutscene/movie too, and the use of the in game soundtracks, this is beautiful man damn. The audio editing is so on point too, amazing work🔥❤ I love coincidences like this lol

if Naughty Dog were to make another Uncharted game and if my theory is correct, I reckon they will make with Chloe and Nadine again. if you guys remember in the final scene after they took down the train, Nadine did say she will have another go at treasure hunting and Chloe did regard Nadine as her partner. afterall, its safe to say that after Nate has officially retired, Chloe Sam and Nadine are the only active professionals so if they were to make another story it will be revolve around this 3 characters. Who knows maybe Chloe will be the main protagonist after Nate in future Uncharted games

I came into the uncharted scene late and kind of ran through them. No pause in-between so no chance to to really wait and expect and feel super satisfied as for as anticipation goes, but I enjoyed them all so much, but this one had elements and attitude. The trailer did it justice. Maybe my favorite uncharted game.

Hey very nice. I have many questions regarding IP rights for making fan trailers. How does it work? Can you use logos and footage without buying the rights?

The simple truth is fan trailer makers have absolutely no rights to use any of these things, no amount of text in a description can make it legal or count as anything close to permission. You're at risk to get videos flagged, taken down or monetized by the rights holders whether because of game content and/or the music you use. But I haven't had any interest in monetizing any of these videos, and so far have only run into a handful of situations where any of my videos were blocked (mostly because of music rights). But I know these videos are at risk for that, and they're well within their right to do it. I do it anyway for the fun of it, but I never for a moment try to claim it's fair use or anything else (I'd talk to a lawyer first before doing anything like that)
