UNCHARTED | Tom Holland | Mark Wahlberg | Trailer #2 Reaction!

Check out our reaction to the second trailer for Sony's #UnchartedMovie starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully. NGL I'm still a little hesitant about this movie. "It's a pirate movie now" Actually... that pretty much sums up Uncharted now that I think about it. He's a modern pirate: always at sea traveling to other places, searching for sunken treasure, going to lost cities, etc.

@@NarukuSenpai In the latest Uncharted "A Thief's End" it was about a bunch of different pirate groups that set up a type of paradise in a archipelago type area (looks similar to the scene where they pick up the two ships in this trailer). Pirates are thieves too. A sea of thieves as the kids say... ok don't kill me for that one.

Thinking about it even more, Uncharted is purely about pirates, old and modern pirates. Drakes opposition in pretty much all of the games are straight up pirates themselves, in UC2 they seemed more of a PMC but still behaving in a way that's like a pirate. Though they're trying to steal from Nathan, or Nathan is trying to steal from others, and a lot of boats because of the location pirates of the past stored their booty.

While I agree with Jaby on the miscasting of the lead characters, I also acknowledge that the producers of the film see this as a potential film franchise. When you're making several films, either you cast younger actors to age up with each installment or you recast/reboot like James Bond. Either way, I'll wait to catch this one at home.

I love that Jabby stays honest through out all these years. Let's be honest, Tom Holland was hired to play Nathan Drake because he's Hollywood trending. Hollywood & Sony know that with the name "Tom Holland" attached to Uncharted, which is our generations Indiana Jones, alongside Tomb Raider. It's a movie that will make easy, obvious money. It's the same story of when they hired Will Smith, The Rock or Tom Cruise for every hollywood action movie. This isn't creative casting at all, i'm sure they made the decision to cast Tom in 2 seconds lol

That’s where stunt doubles come into play. In this case, they are just leaching nostalgia money like most video game movie adaptations did back in the day. They are getting hate because it just feels like mark and spider man doing stuff instead of Nathan. Also, it’s not a past Nathan or younger Nathan cuz they have mishmashes scenes from all the games into this. It’s kind of understandable why both of em are getting this hate from even casual uncharted fans…

There is a trend that I don't like of people thinking ADAPTATIONS of an IP has to be 100% exactly the same as the source material. Nothing translates well if you try to do the exact same thing in a movie or show. It's just not possible. Let's just wait until it comes out and base it on it's own merits. Naughty Dog has been working hand in hand with the film studio, so I feel these harsh opinions could be too premature.

I mean yes, but isn't this the worst kinda 50/50 mix of it? It clearly tries to be close to the original. Some of the set pieces are just straight out of the game. The opening shot with the pirate ship in the cave is literal the exact recreation of the shot from the game. But then we have the characters that just aren't close to the original. Neither of them really capture the spirit of Drake and Sully well. What I rather would have had, would be a cool adventure unrelated to the video game, but staying close to the actual characters. Cause now I get a dialed up version of what I allready know with some characters I barley see myself getting invested in.

I think filmmakers are confused what majority of fans want out of video game movies...especially story driven games like uncharted or assassins creed or tomb raider...we want chronology of events not complete seperate events that we are unfamiliar with, at least not on the first movie. I mean idk man, i get where jaby is coming from but it's not like they're making the video game in its original format translated to the big screen, I believe it's a video game adaptation. They're adapting the video game lore to the big screen and to me at least, it makes sense to start with an origin story, where he is "young" then continue with, hopefully, sequels where they can explore the more experienced Nathan Drake, which you seem to prefer. I think it looks good and cool.

I have played all 5 games. I know them inside out. This is a prequel to the first game. Its not doing a beat for beat recreation of any one of the games. It takes place in the interim between when sully and nate met and the first game. I think that tom holland is doing a good young nate who is inexperienced. I think you're being way too hard on it as an adaptation just because its not identical. Tom holland is not nolan north and never will be. Let him make the role his own and stop judging it for not being a beat for beat rip. No adaptation is ever a beat for beat recreation of the source material. No adaptation of a character will ever be 100% identical. Actors will always put their own spin on things. I learned a long time ago that i will never get the kind of adaptations that I want and just because what i do get isnt the adaptation i want doesnt make it any less the property its adapting. Uncharted may not be as close to source as some people want. That doesnt make it any less uncharted.

I think that most people who hasn't played the games will enjoy the movie. But to the fans it's gonna be a hard pill to swallow because Tom, for all his acting chops, doesn't 'feel' like Nathan Drake at all. The way he talks, moves and interacts with other characters is very different to what we're used to expect from Nate. I'm with Jaby here. I'd probably be a lot more interested in it if this wasn't Uncharted, but rather Random Action/Adventure Movie.

I think he’s in the same boat as me: just so fucking desperate to think it looks good, that it looks like a love letter to fans or a true interpretation of a beloved story. Only for it to so quickly disappoint. Sonic and Detective Pikachu maybe the only movies to survive the video game curse. Uncharted is a great game, so if we’ll handled, it could be the next. But standards for Uncharted stories are high, and this doesn’t match them.

Comic book fans are fully adapted to experiencing different versions of the characters and stories that they read in different mediums. Game fans should expect and get used to the same. Expecting the movies to be the exact same things as the game but played as a movie not only wouldn't translate well onto the screen but would make the whole existence of the movie pointless.

This looks like a lot of fun though, not sure what you’re so skeptical about. Nathan Drake was about 30 at the end of Drakes Fortune. This movie takes place before that. It’s a prequel to the first game.

It’s the fact that it’s a younger Nate wet behind the ears with a younger much different sully who are reliving call backs to all 4 games which is supposed to happen later. There’s no way they can transition from this into a much older not Tom holland Nathan drake and stay true to the source material.

How faithful they *aren't in season 1 maybe they were but season 2 not really that faithful also I probably talk for a minor group of people but some people don't want the same story of the games as a movie since the games already feels like a really long movie

It's a little d8fficult to convert a game into a full movie I imagine, since, the plot for tue games are engineered for the structure of the game. So their would be obvious work around to those moments

Yen betrayed Ciri on S2, that's already character assassination for that character. They killed off a revelant named side character for no reason. They pretty much ruined Kaer Morhen by having witchers being drunkards. Turn them into bunch of a-holes. Having whores and orgy on the sacred place that was supposed to be hidden from the world. The Netflix Witcher have no respect on the source material whatsoever.

If I want an Uncharted experience I'll play the games. Heck, if I want an Uncharted movie I'm sure I can find a cutscene edit here on KZbin of all 4 games. This is Sony further trying to squeeze money out of overly eager fans which is why even from the trailers we see so many fan service moments from the games, despite how this is suppose to be its own story. Also Mark Wahlberg in this trailer acts more like how I'd expect Nathan to act. While Tom Holland seems almost the straight man to Wahlberg's devil may care attitude.

The expectations are below average honestly. We just want a good movie based around source material. Uncharted has never been a multiverse movie that you can get away with changing the narrative like sonic or putting it in the future like detective pikachu with the same character namesake. It’d have been a much more acceptable ride if it was a sequel to the games with like a fan following drakes footsteps or even their sun. But ye. That’s not Nathan abs that’s not sully. I think Uncharted is a bit different, because the games themselves are action movies. The game play is very repetitive, but it’s the story/script that made the game Sony flag ship franchise. Literally all they had to do is cast properly and use the same script as the games and most people would of been fine. Mark being cast as Drake would of made more since that Tom Holland, who actually look like the kid version of Drake from the game. Out of all the video game movie adaptation, this uncharted is the easiest one to get right lol.

As Jabby said - Parkour = fastest way from point A to point B Freerunning = more "tricking" If it makes anyone feel better, if you can, think of Uncharted like this. There's a game-verse, and a movie-verse and you should have a decent time, dare I say an enjoyable time.

Some thoughts The reason ppl make remakes/sequels or book/game adaptations is because there is a pre-existing population of readers/spectators already invested in the IP Makes it easy for them to take RISKS; movies are an expensive & HR intensive artform Yet, expectations of fidelity can become a burden Read HP books & seen the movies JK Rowling is a genius of an author But her insistence on going by the books(pun intended) meant that movies of HP4+ were great stories, but okay movies Whereas PoA i can watch prob a hundred times w/o tiring, yet she chose to alter the team/style Just wish the fans of the source IPs understood this

One rare occation where I completely agree with jaby. The only person in Hollywood fit to play Nathan Drake is Tom cruise I feel. I dunno, but ethan hunt and Nathan Drake behave pretty similarly when they deal with some mind-blowing situations they are put through.

I feel the same thay jabi does ... on one hand some the shots look cool and I could see a really fun movie here.... But its feels to distanced from uncharted. the casting is sketch and the the story in terms of from the games is all over the place. the games are literally set up beautifully to make films why did they need to mish mash them up? such a weird decision and screams out that the ppl making the decisions aren't fans of uncharted and arent familiar with the material. it's basically a bit of a cash grab feel to it

I completely agree w/ Jaby, I love Tom Holland but he is not Nathan Drake. Nathan Drake is more messy when it comes to his movements, he never had any type of flashy movements when gettin to where he needs to get. He would fumble and stumble across his movements, this looks more like Peter Parker cosplaying as Nathan Drake. Mark Wahlberg is jus playing Mark Walhberg, he doesnt even sound or behave like Sully
