The song is about unhappy love: the girl's dying love is associated with white asters in the garden. "Кохання" (kohannya) is "love" in Ukrainian. "Ой кто-то с горочки спустился"- is soviet plagiarism of this ORIGINAL UKRAINIAN romance: ruSSians stole the melody and replaced the lyrics, which they did with quite a few Ukrainian folk songs.

From Wikipedia - Published in 1961, collection "Ukrainian folk romances". And includes songs published (but not written) between 1921- 1958. But my granny use to sing that song, she was born in 1921. And she learned it from her mom. (Or at least she told me so). Original tempo is a mystery (for me), but usually around 90 bpm (from early records). Did you say autumn vibe? Maurice we have in Ukrainian two words for love ....Love car or ice cream or weather its in Ukrainian "LJUBYTY"...." KOHATY" its love just for a humans not animals or other staff like furniture and food example. Hope its helps you to understand . All the best. Hugs

Regarding the stolen songs. russian empire and then soviet union (same as an empire) by its very nature can only exist in the case of constant expansion and military aggression. in the process empire need to assimilate nations to control them. and this is done through the substitution of cultural values that underlie these peoples or nations. folk songs play a huge role in the culture of any nation or people. in such songs both musical meanings and lyrical and linguistic meanings are included. So, long story short, russia stealing historical concepts from Ukraine (like they made with Kievan Rus' - appropriated legacy) and a cultural elements like songs. this particular song was covered with the new lyrics and meanings but music was same. and Ukrainian song which about young girl (17 yo) who fall in love for the very first time (and you right, this happened in autumn😊) and she is afraid to admit this to her loved one and suffers from unrequited love. instead soviet cover full of military markers and typically soviet union markers. their song is about man who went down from the hill towards to the girl in kolkhoz (you can look at wiki about it) and she admires his military uniform, medals and orders on his chest. and he is too much “cool” for her that she afraid to lose her mind. feel the difference. hope this will bring some light to the context.

The "autumn vibe" i think comes from the whole sad meaning of this folk song :) I'd also suggest you to listen to Khristina Soloviy. This is a national Ukrainian song. It doesn't have an author, at least he/she is unknown. There are tens of thousands national Ukrainian songs. It is not sang at some particular time. You can sing it whenever you want. "Kohannia" "Кохання" means "love" in Ukrainian.

Hi. Soviet Union stole this song, and represent it like it own song military song about soldier "Somebody down from the hill"(rus. Вот кто-то с горушки спустился"). But original text and music are ukrainian and about love. It a very old song. P.S. You were right, about autumn. In song there is a text about flowers which blossoms in autumn.
