Will Smith more or less plays himself in this good-natured NBC sitcom. As the show's popular theme song explains, fictional Will's mom sends him away from his rough Philadelphia neighborhood to live with wealthy Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian in Bel-Air. Will often has fun at the expense of stuck-up cousins Carlton and Hilary.

@@royalreptile923 nobody should mess with uncle Phil, especially when he’s this pissed. And you’re right, uncle Phil is such an amazing character that I just wish we could have more adults just like him. People who can be strict and tough with discipline but also great role models for kids and teens. Especially with today’s generation cuz man… the fact that so many kids and teens today can be out of control because of lack of parenting and discipline that it makes me wish we had people like uncle Phil 😲

Hey, I’m from Germany (at this point more than ashamed to admit it) and you’re totally right, we do have a huge racism problem with the police even if they deny it. The fact that not only the far right party gets more and more supporters each day and is now at its peak since 1930/1940s but more and more crimes are being done is hella scary. Before I left school I had a black friend (their skin was caramel colors but definitely darker than mine) and when we hang after school in the park, an officer saw us and asked me if I was being harassed by my friend. We were just sitting by the pond and were laughing. I obviously denied it and said we were just having fun but the police officer wasn’t leaving us alone until one of his colleagues came and apologized TO ME OF ALL PEOPLE for the harassment. My friend was very sad after this and I was furious. So no matter what is said, in Germany we really do have still a huge problem with racism, homophobia, transphobia, women hate etc.

Whatzup, Cody? Great reaction! The episode “Mistaken Identity” is very powerful! I’m sorry to hear about what happened to you and your friend in Germany. I hope he’s currently doing alright after everything that happened. Although I didn’t experience any racism growing up, I’m an interracial person myself. I’m half black Cherokee and half white/Italian. I will admit that I used to be like Carlton when I was a kid. I was innocent, naïve, a rule-follower, and had the mind of a child from time-to-time. In case you’re wondering about that part, I grew up with Asperger’s syndrome. Still, I’ve been treated equally throughout my life, and I grew up having the same mindset as Carlton. I used to think the world would be easier for me if I just stay out of trouble, did what I was told, and kept being the good person that I am. Now that I’m an adult, I realize that it doesn’t always work that way. And the sad thing is if I was back at Carlton’s age and experienced racial profiling, the same way Will and Carlton did, I most likely would’ve thought the cops were just doing their jobs too. Luckily, I still don’t have any experience with racism to this day. But you’re right, you never know if that day will ever come, and I sometimes worry about that from time to time. However, I try not to let that interfere with my life as I still have a loving family and some great friends who will have my back if anything happens.

@sandpiperr
@sandpiperr 10 күн бұрын
I'll be real, I don't like the way Will treats Carlton over things like his clothes and taste in music because I just plain don't like people who put down others for having different interests and tastes than them. Spin it however you wish, ultimately, it's nothing more than saying "What I like is better than what you like because I say it is, and thus I'm better than you!" Which is just a completely subjective and entitled way of seeing the world. However, I have to admit, Carlton also doesn't do himself any favors. His flaw isn't his style or his taste, it's that he's arrogant in a different way. He thinks he knows everything and is inherently smarter than Will, so he doesn't believe that there's any need to listen to Will when he talks about his experience of life.

The one with Phil’s parents has to be one of my favorite episodes in season 1. cuz Phil had to be reminded that as much as it’s great that he has become a successful wealthy man, he had to learn that he shouldn’t be ashamed of his origins and of his parents. He had to learn to be grateful for having parents who despite not having much, they worked so damn hard for him in his childhood, and man, the pain in his mom’s voice when she realized how ashamed he was… 😢 But I’m glad that in the end he finally had to tell others that he is proud for having such great parents 🥹 And man… the jail episode. Despite being a very funny ep, it’s still so heartbreaking to see the look on Carlton’s face once he learned the reality of racism in the end. He may be rich but it doesn’t mean that not everyone will respect him all because of his skin color 😢 And the fact that this episode was made in the freaking 90’s! 25+ years ago!… and yet… till this day, this damn racism still exist!… and it just pisses the hell out me because I just don’t understand why there are still people out there who have this disgusting and scary feeling of pure hatred against others all because of the skin color!? Like why should skin color matter?! It shouldn’t! We may be all different by skin color and culture but one thing has always been the same since the beginning… we are humans. And yet sadly some of those ignorant racist people around the world have that horrible believe that one is superior than others because of someone else’s differences.

Donald Trump, one of the most corrupt, bigoted, loud-mouthed, uneducated, hateful piles of evil excrement the world has ever seen was a presidential nominee and actually somehow won, and he might somehow slime his way into office yet again, soley by tapping into the white supremacy, homophobia, delusional insanity and white sheet bigotry still obviously inherent in the large white majority of this country. Not only is this country infected to the point that it will never recover, but it's always been this way, it never took it's foot off the gas and it's only going to get much, much worse.

Later on in the show what you were talking about at the end and how racism towards black people is still a thing which it is at first when i saw this episode i was like that is a very heavy deep message to show on tv especially in the 90s, in the later episodes of the fresh prince of bel - air they are more heaved themed episodes like this, there was one i think later on that really stuck with me and i there is one part that actually made me tear up and cry i don’t wanna spoil anything but it’s a really good episode and i can relate to that ALOT.

@@ItsTotallyCody A show about the social issues of black people SHOULD know simple things like that. It's an inaccuracy that no one, including you, manage to catch. Especially the writers of the show... Who were white... Writing about black issues... So it NEEDS to be said. Lies, inaccuracies, omissions, they ALL need to be addressed when they happen. Especially on a show tackling black issues, written by ignorant white people.

Love seeing a reaction to this show, BTW episode 8 and 9 are a 2 part but have a lot of replay moments from the previous episodes so you might be able to do a four episode react next time

My god so the last 2 episodes caused so many family arguments and drama in the south. So I am from a border town called Brownsville Texas and the Mexican side is Matamoros. We are separated into two main groups there. The Nacos and Fresas the "street people" and the "prepies". Well all the people ike me saw the aunt and the police as pieces of prejudice garbage and of course all the prepies sided with the aunt saying she was right not wanting some naco to go out with her nice daughterand and as for the police episode well they said if we didn't dress like we were looking for trouble then the cops wouldn't bother us. Like I said this show and Family matters did so much to help society. They were real family shows. If we still had show like that maybe our society wouldn't be so crazy.

I saw this on Hulu before. Yeah, those cops were so incompetent. How are they even cops if they don’t ask about a lawyer present or notify someone’s parents?
