I noticed that many of the people who defend him are the wt people which gives his “comedy” as an “okay” to punch down. They say this is all a character but why is it okay we let this pass because it’s this kind of hatred that others will consume and think it’s okay to talk to people and communities like this. It’s labeled as “comedy” until people like this are called out and find out the actual even worst behaviors that “we” have been accepting from them. It’s a “persona” that is used to disguise this gross behavior. It’s these undertones and red flags that are just the tip of the iceberg. If you find yourself accepting this kind of humor, take a moment to reflect on why you’re okay with it. Self-reflection can lead to greater awareness.

Uncle Roger spends more than half of his time making fun of white people. So obviously white people defending him don't think he's being racist or they wouldn't waste their time listening to someone who hates them.

Not everyone has to like our food, and I thought that was funny. He's a comedian. If we get offended by all things that comedians say, then what's the point in that? I'm Lao and proud and I don't get offended easily. I think people need to calm down.

You can only call it a joke if its funny if it does more harm then good it's not longer a joke. I know laos and cambodia food isnt really popular however alot of people in both community on social media are trying to shine some light on all these 2 countries cousine. Consider how big of a celeb he is now just this one bad joke could change alot of perspective on these 2 countries for the worse.

Since I’m half Lao and proud of my Lao side, I got a bit offended by Uncle Roger, but you know, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. And this fake “FOB” accent of his sounds so fake too. And also, Thai people actually name Lao food Thai food. Which is wrong, because khon isaan are basically pLao and they eat that too

This is actually sort of shocking. I feel like I was introduced to so many completely new and amazing flavors when I was able to visit Laos a few years back. Even though I was only there a week, I'd still consider it my favorite cuisine. The only bad thing about Laotian food is how hard it can be to find, but that's why I'm so thankful for channels like yours! I definitely sing the praises of Lao food whenever anyone will listen, have to fight this small mindedness! Keep up the good work!

Woh, stop the breaks! First off, Uncle Who? Seriously folks, the guy is not a chef (nor a comedian) and attempts to make a living by mocking western chefs with his exaggerated accent and impression of an old Chinese man-which is actually quite offensive to some Chinese people. He's also Malaysian and if someone were to make the very ignorant statement in public, "Malaysian food is a shit version of Chinese food", I am pretty sure he and the rest of Malaysians would be extremely offended. With that said, please don't let the ignorant words of a comedian/chef wannabe stop you from trying Cambodian or Lao food-which are some of the most flavorful, rich, herbaceous, delicious food on the planet.

I am a Malaysian and I 100% adored Lao Food. For people who have never tried, they MISS something really great! I cooked Lao Food from time to time and I even made my own Padek (fish was bought in Paksong Market). My NO. 1 favorite coffee is Lao Coffee, grown, processed and roasted at Lak40 - Coffee & Tea ❤️❤️❤️

Thai Lao and Khmer are usually harmonious, we are more similar than any other group out there. Thai people that look down on Khmer and Lao are typically of Chinese decent, from Bangkok, falsifying history in Nationalist move to Thaify everything at the cost of Khmer and Lao credit. Uncle Roger fits this bill, hence why it hurts at a level that his defenders wont understand.

Yes it was all funny watching people getting roasted until my own culture got put down majorly. It makes it harder because Laos gets enough hate. It's how Lao people feel when they hear of their favorite Thai celebrities being interviewed dissing their Lao culture and their people. It did affect me because as a kid you think wow is Laos really that bad compared to Thailand? Now Uncle Roger too? 💔

Thats funny I'm lao and all my white or black friends prefer lao food vs thai. My sister in law is thai and runs a Thai food restaurant with my brother, even she prefer the lao food. 80% of her dishes she cooks at home is lao style. Personally the lao foods have a much stronger flavor.

Super disappointed in Uncle Roger. Very ignorant and unfunny. Anyone who would put down Lao or Cambodian food doesn't know those cuisines very well at all. Happy note: I have received my Lao Spices and used them several times already. They are awesome. Thanks for making the deliciousness that is Lao food so accessible to non-Lao home cooks.

@@danitaung2665 Uncle Roger's comedy isn't influencing anyone. If you let comedy influence your behavior, you're a loss cause. If you're just going around acting this sensitive because someone said a joke, can't be sorry. According to the video creators logic, we can't have a good laugh because it may become acceptable to say stuff like that to communities. Few things wrong with that statement. If I want to be influenced, I don't go to a comedy KZbin channel for influence. Nobody gets influenced by comedy because it's a JOKE. If you, a grown adult, can't handle a joke and will go to any extent to justify being offended at a joke, don't watch that video. If Peppa pig says she doesn't like chicken, and you get offended by that, you're probably unemployed. #2. Uncle Roger didn't create a comedy channel because he wanted to make fun of cultures. He created it to poke fun at British chefs cooking of asian foods. He didn't create it to insult asian cultures, he created it to defend the integrity of asian cooking while making a few jokes. Notice how he makes jokes about white people and yet they're not complaining. You know why? They grasp this concept called "a joke". If you cannot handle a joke, do not watch videos on comedy channels period. Ignorance is truly, a bliss. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. So many things wrong with his point. If you're throwing a tantrum about a few jokes, labeling them as "a persona to insult our communities!" Jokes aren't meant to influence nor be taken seriously. What the creator is doing is taking the joke seriously. Can't handle a joke like the rest of us? Don't watch his videos.

Khmers can relate as Thais have always claimed we copied everything of theirs when that’s not true. They have a larger population and are more widely known, therefore, they can push anything as being “thai” and people will believe it. I’m not Laotian but I did grow up with many Laotians and many have said thai food is basically Laotian food with some things influenced by Khmers as well that has been slightly altered and marketed as thai food. But Thais will claim Laos and Cambodia copied them. This has been ongoing for decades.

Lao food is absolutely delicious and stands out against others like Thailand. Thailand also has great food but many of the Thai dishes we get in North America are actually Lao food so people are often confused. They need to go to Laos and check it out. So delicious!

I am Mexican American and my husband is Chinese from Vietnam and we LOVE Lao food!!! So thankful for your channel and all the beauty of Lao cuisine that you share with us. My 17 year old son loves it too. I am always looking for the next Lao dish to make… so many dishes - so little time!😊 Thanks for the info on Ma Der in OKC!!! We drive through there every year for Thanksgiving and stay in that area! I am so excited. Any suggestions for Houston, Texas?

One thing I agree in his video is when he said " not all SEA countries have good food " I mean yeah not all food are good, some are bad and some are good but the way he said us Cambodia and Laos have no good food and called our food a sh*t version of Thai food is just so frustrating. And also in his new short vid he shows a Laotian women protest him for calling your food a sh*t version of Thai and called him a B*tch. I love all food but Laos food is my favorite. Thip khao is a great restaurant I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and he’s a great man. I hate to say this but the other Asian cultures usually look down on southeast Asian because they consider themselves better.

I'm not Laos, Cambodian, or Thai, but all their cuisines are amazing. Such vibrant flavor profiles. I grew up eating all three. Those are actually my top 3 Asian cuisine favorites. Some people have a very narrow spectrum mentality. He has no idea what he is missing out on.

In this times UNFORTUNATLY, what is important is THE AMOUNTH OF LIKES YOU CAN HAVE, HOW MANY VIEWS, then all the rest is out of the picture, respect, education, culture, and is HUGE IGNORANCE, what makes people to said and do that. My wife is Isaan so most of the food I eat when I’m home in PhoSai in Ubon Ratchathani province is Laos food and I love it!!!! I love all SE Asian food.

Lao and Khmer cuisines are AMAZING! Even though I do enjoy Thai food, whenever I order from the Thai restaurant near my home, I ALWAYS order their Lao dishes. I may sometimes feel hungry for a burger, spaghetti, etc. But when it comes to larb, I CRAVE that! ❤❤❤

I have always heard from my Asian friends that there is a lot of discrimination against people from countries like Laos, Thailand, Philippines, etc from people who are from China, Korea and Japan. I wonder if that is the reason for his statement.

Glad you didn't stoop to his level. My brother in law is Thai from Bangkok and he loves my late mother's gaeng nor mai which is 100 percent a Lao family recipe. He took a lesson from her but his isnt as good. His thai curry is really good though. The point is, both countries have good cuisine.

I understand both sides of this conflict. One point is that he did offend both our Lao and Cambodian counterparts. But on the other point he says he hasn’t had “good” Lao food . So why not expand his knowledge by making him Lao and Cambodian food instead of fueling the conflict even longer and splitting many people apart.

I'm Thai (half central, half Isaan) so Im a little bit Laos in me. But funny thing is many Isaan doesn't like being labelled as Lao and many Laos don't wanna be labelled as Isaan. As if they dont like each other.😂 J heard that Laos cuisine is actually different from Isaan, so Id like to visit Laos one day and try their food. PS. Jokes aren't meant to be taken seriously. I swear the amount of justification these people are trying to make to justify getting mad at jokes is crazy. I understand that it can feel like you were called out, but remember that the is all comedy played by a fictional character. Jokes aren't meant to influence like the creator is saying. Jokes are for people to laugh. Most of the people here took the joke seriously and got offended. I understand that it's an offensive joke (to some of the more sensitive people), but I think getting mad at his jokes is making the community look bad because they took something nonserious, seriously. It's making the community look overly sensitive and stern. I did notice a few good people from Cambodia in this comments section that seem to get that it was just a joke, kudos to them.

I’m mix Vietnamese, Cambodian and Chinese… when I heard him say Cambodian food & lao food is 💩 and he knew he’d get canceled… I was wondering why he even decided to add that part to HIS video and not edit it out… oh right; cause he wanted the drama. Though his comments are very disappointing because he’s generalizing based upon the dishes he’s experienced. I am mixed so I have been Blessed with a little of everything. My mom was a Great cook and her friends were as well. Growing up Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese and French I got to taste the Best of all those and having great friends from other ethnicities who had great cooks in their families. I was fortunate to have experienced their dishes. We have a lot of similar or same dishes that are called different. I think he just hasn’t tried everything or found his fav dish in other cultures. Disappointed yes but not so much offended. I know I have some dishes I don’t like from other cultures but I would keep rolling because I’m bound to find something I love!

I tavelled to cambodia and now resided in thailand and let me tell you my unbiased answer, Both countries all got delicious cuisine. Yes, some foods are mostly similar but there are specific foods that differentiate both countries' cuisine (look at malaysian and indonesian food). I don't know why uncle roger said cambodian food are "shit", but my assumption is that he does not do enough research on the southeast asian food itself. I as chinese myself also notices that he did lack of research on chinese food and he would compare it with malaysian and korean food. in the end, even if he's a comedian he should be careful of the word he says. Now let me put it this way, imagine if some famous random comedian said malaysian food are shit version of indonesian food. I bet he would be pissed off as well. comedian should make everyone laugh not divide people.

Sometimes Uncle Roger does these disses for a cook off like hating on other people for cooking rice or other dishes then they'd be on his show or so. It still wasn't cool to diss on two countries saying it's the shit version of Thailand. I hope that deep down he did it to popularize Lao and Cambodian food. Uncle Roger is only a character and he does anything to get views. Lol I shared it to Saeng for more popularity and for Lao food lol Uncle Roger got like 8 Million Subscribers!!!
