The road surface at the beginning may not be asphalt, but just oiled instead. It's used on some low-traffic roads here in Alberta: a heavy oil is put down on gravel, and traffic compacts it down over time into a surface similar to very thin asphalt pavement. It's way cheaper than actual asphalt (since oil is just sprayed from the back of a truck), but the road surface is a lot more durable than bare gravel.
@MattBrander2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir. Around here we call it chip seal.
@djhrecordhound43912 жыл бұрын
Wow thanx, I just learned something new! There were industrial roads near my childhood neighbourhood, and I thought they only sprayed to keep dust down near houses. You're right about the road surface. Very prone to weird divots and ruts, plus those potholes probably rattle each trucker into next week lol!

Not to break you bubble . It’s not ashphalt at all but called chip seal. Where they spray a layer of tar then apply Stone an roll in down. That’s all the tar truck is self heating. Think about how far a truck load of ashphalt has to travel an how cold it would get. An then you have edges from the machine laying the ashphalt. An it would be black. Just something you should know the oil run off would contaminate water near buy. So they do chip an seal. Even on city streets now it’s cheaper.
@jaratt852 жыл бұрын
That's because it's not asphalt, it's compacted gravel. BTW if you didn't see my comment on your video where you saw the fish, I'm pretty sure that was a brook trout, which are actually getting pretty rare now as most of their habitat has been destroyed. (I actually looked up Pen fish species)

Thank you very much for this very interesting and informative video presentation. This was an interesting variety of culverts that you put before the people but without doubt that one at the end was in serious trouble, due in no small measure by a degree of neglect by the local authority. One would hope that action will be taken to fell and remove the offending tree and get to work, by specialist machinery, to urgently unclog that culvert, or else they will have the very great expense of replacing a washed out road. The community are grateful that this has been made known by you.
