I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

It releases serotonin. Same with pimple popping videos. When you see something compacted being cleared, it gives us the same chemical release that comes with our own personal experiences with unclogging something on ourselves. Gives us that same emotional response. Humans are weird.😂

A good idea might be to have some long 2x4s in your truck that have a hinge in the middle with a elapse so you can lock both together. This will double the length of the 2x4. Just keep it in the truck in case it's needed.

I don't live in New England (and probably wouldn't be welcome), but there's a comfort from these videos about returning to places we've been accustomed to seeing on this channel over the years. It's like an odd vacation home that we can visit without leaving the couch. I continue to appreciate the work and the content. As a side note, I was kind of hoping for the ironic comedy of a guy who removes beaver dams and thousands of sticks a year from culverts not being able to find a usable stick anywhere, just to see the reaction. 😂

Post, go to a store which sells PVC pipe, and get 2 10 ft. Sections of 1 1/2 - 2 “” pipe with a coupling that you could put them together and take apart. Plus a cap in the end for pushing against the trash. Might work for you and is only my opinion. Otherwise sir, great job and video, 👍👍👍👍
@jamesalinio5277
@jamesalinio5277 10 ай бұрын
The diameter of pipe you're talking about would probably be too small to actually do anything, I would think that 4 inch would be a little better but not by much, more like 6 inch diameter with a capped end for ramming and a minimum of 4 pieces of 10 foot pipe with threaded sections so it can be put together and taken apart quickly, but then Post 10 would have to have a ladder type rack on the bed so the pipes can be strapped down, but just think of the power that Post 10 would have to unclog a culvert pipe, man, the pushing power alone is huge, then there is the water pressure behind that to help clear the pipe wow
@tynm13
@tynm13 10 ай бұрын
I was going to suggest a few sections of threaded metal pipe with a selection of different sized end caps that could be screwed on depending on the size of the pipe being cleared.
@jamesalinio5277
@jamesalinio5277 10 ай бұрын
@@tynm13 honestly, you're right, black iron pipe like what would be used for gas mains, threaded ends with couplers and a multi head to ram through whatever is blocking the culvert pipe, it'd be heavy as hell until it was in the water but man the power to slam into the blockage would be phenomenal
@user-zl3wl9rs6s
@user-zl3wl9rs6s 10 ай бұрын

Those "flys" at the beginning sure looked an awful lot like a swarm of ground bees to me! If so, you're darn lucky they didn't mass attack you! The fact they didn't is the only thing that makes me doubt my eyes! And yes, their sting is VERY painful! (edit): The fact they didn't chase you down to the culvert also leads me to believe they were ground bees. They tend to swarm around their nest, which I'm guessing is right around where you parked.
@dave_jones
@dave_jones 10 ай бұрын
I never heard of ground bees attacking - google says the males don’t even have stingers… are you thinking of yellow jackets which also nest in the ground? I was guessing black flies - they breed near rivers and ponds and have a nasty bite.

😶‍🌫️ don't remind me of yellow jackets attacking. I was at the beach a long time ago and I gave a step back to throw a football, I stepped right into a nest. Thank God I was wearing really loose sweat clothes. I had them in my hair. They stung me on my scalp, hands and ankles. The rest of the family got stung too trying to swat them off me with towels. They told me later my back was completely covered. That was a painful experience.
@wallyman292
@wallyman292 10 ай бұрын
@@dave_jonesYes, I'm speaking of yellow jackets. Sorry for the confusion. I don't think these were flies of any kind, either black or deer. Take a careful look right after he gets out of the truck. One flies right in front of his camera, and pauses for a short second. Look how the rear end is hanging down at an angle to the rest of its body. That sure looks like a yellow jacket rather than a fly to me!

My dad was great at building things out of PVC pipe, and watching you trying to find some sticks to push out the clog made me think that you could build a pusher stick out of PVC pipe - it could be made in easy-to-carry lengths by using screw-on ends and connecting extension sections as needed. You could make a 'pusher' end and a 'puller' end that could screw on the working end. Take it apart and put it in a bag under the pickup seat when you don't need it. PVC pipe is pretty strong, but if a section breaks, it would be easy to replace. You could drill a hole in the end and attach a rope if you think it needs help coming out of the culvert. Love your videos! 💖
