Follow my journey of taking a 50 year old crawlspace from a poor lit crawlspace, a bad air crawlspace, a spider and cat poop infested crawlspace, into a livable, breathable, visible, usable conditioned crawlspace.
This is part 2 of a series, if you want to see the whole process go here: • Installing Can Lights ...
If this has helped you please help me by liking the video and leaving a comment on what helped. If you have tips that could help me, please let me know so we can learn together. Thank you for being a good human.

Did you ever finish the crawlspace? I’d love to see the final result.

the use of wedges is actually a very common method used to level the floor joist of houses. they are not screwed or anything because if done correctly. The weight of the house should be more than sufficient to hold them into place. what you did is a much cleaner approach and looks better but how it was done originally was fine as well.

I think the moisture/ mold barrier is a bad idea, since there isn’t any moisture coming from the inside it’s not the correct place to put it, it’s going to reduce the drying potential of the moisture to the inside so any moisture that gets in from the outside will collect and slowly destroy your foundation

Concrete does not care about moisture. Water does not degrade concrete, which is why they build docks and hydroelectric dams out of the stuff.

You do realize that you could have paid someone $10k to do this for you. That's my way of saying you did a great job. Thanks for sharing.

Where is the finished video? My son has a 7’ tall crawl space with around 450 sq ft and I’m looking at ideas of others for ideas.

A suggestion as an alternative to lining the crawl space with plastic: 2" closed cell spray foam is considered a vapour/radon barrier and provides the added insulation value. It can be applied to compacted soil. It would not be as labour intensive as encapsulating with a liner and would be a little more durable. (the seal won't be broken as easily) I had a quote for crawl space encapsulation of $15,000 the same job in spray foam was $3700 Concrete can be poured over the spray foam for a durable finish. Unfortunately closed cell spray foam on a crawl space scale is not a DIY project. You would need to call in a contractor....

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately thats out of the budget for this project. But seems like that would be a solid method.

Is the dirt in the crawlspace already considered compacted or would you have to tamp it all down?
@Zewestcoaster
@Zewestcoaster Жыл бұрын
@@bend4852 For Spray foam? That depends on what the dirt in the crawl space is like. I would expect it would not be suitable if it is easily blown around with air, keep in mind you blasting air onto that surface... Here are a couple videos that helped me decide what I should do... kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHi2d3-GprCclc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXrYZWeCrKp6nbM kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKGmo4qJdthrqas

Never understood why someone would put in crawspace that tall and not go a full basement
@grazeland
@grazeland 11 ай бұрын
I agree! It's too bad they went that far and didn't go a little deeper to just make it a basement. We don't have a shallow water table here either. If it was the forever home I would of dug it out. But not worth it now to do that.

What is the name of the plastic you put on the floor ? 6 Mil. is generally called "visqueen"

The one I used is 20 mil. Dura Skrim 20 mil with string reinforced construction. The exact cut I ordered is no longer available, but this is the closest thing I could find to what I used. amzn.to/44XQ3rk

Once it's conditioned do you still have an access point?
@grazeland
@grazeland 11 ай бұрын
Yes, it will be accessible from a bedroom through a solid wood door. It's a split level home. No entry from outside though. (also the way it was before making it a conditioned crawlspace.)

Stop insinuating a loose ASSUMPTION- " so I am hoping the kids were not actually playing down here from previous owner..."...why even say that? Do you have proof this occurred -if not, you should stop defaming the previous owner. Your statement was solely intended on insinuating the previous owners allowed the kids to play in a dangerous area. First and last time watching this channel.

Okay Karen. Out of all of the content in this video, you took that little statement and ran with it. You sound like the previous owner who let their children play in that dangerous area.

@HighlanderJosh i was just about to say, "Okay, Karen." Im baffled that that snippet triggered someone so much. "I found a bunch of toys down here, so i hope it wasnt kids playing down here...." that seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to say. I guess it just hit a little too close to home for this person for some reason 😂
