Bulky: Brother KH260 (with ribber & color changer) Brother KX 390 Convertible (both bulky & standard) Ultimate Sweater Machine (plastic bed) Bond Knitting Machine with Ribber (plastic bed) KnitSmart Afghaner Mid-gauge: LK150 Bond Elite (with extension) Brother KX350 Standard: Brother 551 Studio 560 I find I use the bulky or mid-gauge machines mostly. I make my Queen blankets with the Ultimate Sweater Machine (can't explain why?😀).I was blessed to find the Brother KX350 in 2022 for only $125, which is the Brother version of the LK150.

So well explained and a very useful video for beginners. I am fortunate to have a Singer mid-gauge SK860 with ribber, and it is my most favourite machine as it takes a big range of yarns. I also have a Brother KH260 which I love it bulky hand manipulated lace. Great video! Of course we all end up with all three gauges eventually.

You’re welcome. I like to start local. I use Facebook marketplace to see what kind of knitting machines might be close to me. Once you get into it you’ll want more machines so it doesn’t necessarily matter what you start with 😂😂

I love LK140 the same as LK150 but shorter. It takes fingering weight yarn as well but no ribber.

I have an LK140 also. I bought it just before they decided to make the LK150s. 140 needles is plenty for me to make the size sweaters I wanted. I’ve done fairisle and intarsia work on it also. I relatch needles into a knit/purl pattern when I want to do ribbing. I don’t like mock ribbing. I’ve used fingering to Aran weight on it.

The secret to finding the perfect machine is browsing Angelica’s Yarn Store online, it will pretty much generate exactly what you want when filtering the search results. Personally all of my yarn is weight three and above so I went with a silver Reed bulky gauge, $1,500 but so incredibly worth it to be able to use yarn I already had large amounts of and not have to go out and buy thinner thread specifically for a standard gauge machine. I Can use any yarn up to Bernat baby blanket weight (have to use every other needle when working with such thick yarn) and it has a punch card reader and they are still being made brand new, so no used machine that’s missing pieces. I’m so glad this hobby is being brought back to life!!

That's a good point. It's very important to match the yarn you want to use or have.

What is the numbers for the brothers standard machine
@debbiel7736

I still find it confusing with so many model numbers. I can't seem to find a chart that tells older to newer models or types of yarn. I believe I want a standard knit. I want to do socks and light weight sweaters and baby blankets. I would like to add a ribber at some point. Can you point me to some sites that could break these down more?

I have a problem Three years ago I moved a long way from home (Pacific NW to Texas). Unfortunately I lost parts to my double bed bulky machine. In frustration, I bought a new Silver Reed LK150 single bed machine which is lightweight and very easy to use. Not much later, as I was unpacking boxes, I came across the missing parts to my Brother KH260 with ribber. I only used the the Brother machine now. I used the the Silver Reed once, and now, 2 1/2 years later, it sits in its box under my bed. I would love to get an idea of where to offer it for sale. I've tried Facebook but that didn't work, and also used Etsy. I'm wondering if you have an idea of where I could offer it for sale. I am not expecting to sell it for full price (about $550) but would love to send it off to someone who would enjoy it, and at about half the cost. Any ideas?

Can you suggest an online company to buy replacement parts. I was gifted a sizeable stash of knitting machines. They all need a bit of attention and replacement of the sponge bars. Thank you in advance for your time!!!

You can find a lot of parts on Amazon and eBay, Etsy too. There are companies like Angelika's Yarn store and AllBrands. And some other independent restorers you'll find in Facebook groups. Depends on where you are too.

Amazing video! I have a question about the brother KH280. I know it's a bulky machine, but can it be used to knit fingerling or sock weight yarn? What is the thinnest yarn that could be comfortably used on the machine?
@LoveYourKnittingMachine
@LoveYourKnittingMachine Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried sock weight yarn on my bulky machine. I've used a US weight #3 or baby weight yarn and that's probably as thin as I would go. I was already using a tension of 2 and got a pretty loose fabric. Ideally you would use a worsted or slightly chunky yarn.

Here in the UK there are still a few online yarn suppliers, so yarns for the standard gauge isn't so much of a problem - and something you can do if you want a thicker garment, is either knit tuck or self-coloured fairisle using something like Knitmaster Card 2.

Thank you. I found a lady selling a KR 850 with ribber and 930 and many baskets of yarn "big ones like yours on the wall" for 1200, I offered $500. That's a lot of money for me and you said that they can be found for cheap. I haven't heard back. What do you think about those machines? Thank you for your time ❤
@LoveYourKnittingMachine
@LoveYourKnittingMachine Жыл бұрын
That’s a very nice machine. It depends what shape the machine is in if it’s worth $1200 or not. If it’s been sitting around not being used then definitely not but if it’s refurbished already it might be worth that, especially with a large amount of yarn. It’s only worth what someone will pay for it though right? The cheap machines are usually the ones that need to be cleaned up and no one has used for years.

Absolutely no mention of passap machines? Seems a bit biased. (Personally I have all Japanese machines currently but there are things passap excels at. Also the Toyota brand machines… even older models are built like battleships, and if well cared for,only need the occasional sponge bar replaced. And there’s a couple things they can do none of the others can

My mum used a knitting machine for years but she has Alzheimers and dementia now, is there a flat bed machine that would be easy enough to use and safe? I have no knowledge whatsoever. Thankyou.
@LoveYourKnittingMachine
@LoveYourKnittingMachine 4 ай бұрын
Any flatbed machine can do pretty much the same thing. I would stay away from Passaps as they are a bit confusing but just because a machine can do many things doesn't mean that it can't be used very simply as well.
