Only a certain section of people knew of him and were his fans.😅This is because of his style of songs, which isn't something a lot of people are exposed to and also because of his American accent, there are only about 10% of India's population that speaks English, even lesser are those who are able to follow his flow.

I remember my dad telling me stories about his college days in the 60s in India and how him and his friends got picked up by the cops and beaten for being student activists.
