In memoriam MR. RITSE RITSE, DB (Dobashi) ~A short life well lived~ (1917 to 09.03.1956) Ritse Ritse, DB was the eldest son amongst 5 (five) siblings to Kedounyi Ritse & Khukhro-ü Ritse of Pfütseromi village (erstwhile Tekhouba). Ritse Ritse is believed to have been born in the year 1917, and he was the nephew of Kachüno Ritse (Angami), Interpreter who was one of the signatories of the historic Naga Memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission on January 10, 1929. He was appointed as D.B (Dobashi) in 1940 and assigned to look after Chakhesang Country by Shri C. R. Pawsey, DC Kohima, taking into account his sincerity and devotion. During the visit of Capt. S R Laim to Pfutseromi village, who was a British army officer and a cousin of C R Pawsey, Ritse Ritse DB was entrusted to guide the entourage in view of the presence of some Japanese soldiers in the vicinity. He was presented with a 12 Bore DBBL gun by C R Pawsey, DC in recognition of his valour, efficiency and trustworthiness. On 9th March 1956, he was directed to lead a contingent of Assam Police personnel to Porba village after receiving information about the presence of a group of Naga army. However, the Naga army had left the village long before the Assam Police arrived. This angered the Assam Police personnel who tried to burn down the entire village. Ritse Ritse DB vehemently protested against the dastardly move of the Assam police personnel which ultimately played a pivotal role in avoiding the burning of Porba village that fateful day. As the team was returning back to Pfutsero, the Assam Police personnel brutally killed Ritse Ritse DB at a place called ‘Methotere’ which is in the border of Porba and Pfutseromi village land. This “RITSE MERUBE” is erected to serve as a living testament of his brief and illustrious career by the Ritse Clan of Pfutseromi Village on this day the 16th November 2024.
