An LJ 4-door SL with a 2850 and Trimatic was the first car I drove on a public road. My dad thought it was a good idea to buy his wife a car with no power steering and no a/c. He quickly added dealer-fitted a/c to save his scalp! As for the steering, I remember mum reefing the wheel with both hands like she's struggling to close a hatch in a submarine.

Beautiful car with not a computer or touch screen to be distracted by. A drivers car.

I actually prefered the GTR interior with the houndstooth insert - but I might be a little biased since that was what my Torana had back in the day😂

It's hard to beat a memory of something from your past. Hounds tooth insert looked great.

I owned a Cyan blue 2 door LJ back in the 80s (not an XU1...just standard LJ) it had the full blown XU-1 spec engine with triple SU's. In 1996 i had to sell it and bought an EA falcon as i was getting into an on the road sales rep position. I sold the Torana for a princely sum of $600. Just the triple SU's alone were worth that much even at the time. Boy do i regret having let go of that car.

To go from that to an EA falcon must have been rough.

@@AussieGarage Put it this way, i don't have reminiscing dreams of my EA 😁

You can get stickers to place on the speedo kmh around the inner circle so it doesn’t cover mph

Iv seen those. But Pat has it all worked out.

There was another carb set....you could run was triple twin throat 45 ml Webbers. Rode in a few back in the day with mates ...with that configuration installed the car was a lot quicker than the su carbs ...being a ford man these xu1s didn't stand a chance ...along the Bathurst straights against the mighty GTHOs......must say not bad for a holden thou
@AussieGarageАй бұрын
Iv seen the Webber's on other cars. Great set up.

@@AussieGarage yes the Webbers where a massive up grade made the old red motors scream until they blew a piston or chucked a rod out side the block....

At the 1 minute mark check the Marring (scratches , hollow grams and Swirl marks) in the nose cone and bonnet ! It requires a complete Random Orbital Polishing process and it will come up a Million Dollars. Its the very first thing that grabbed my eye on this beautiful Old car. It can be corrected easy as and make it look soooo much better.

there is something very important missing in the engine bay which is more important then paint ans swirls.
