Also, we do not know from this interview why Sean personally is a Trump supporter, aside from his algorithm bias. Until we understand what is of value to him, it won't sway his favouring of Trump.

I'd say this is what is wrong with humans. Not just today but always. These days it's what the algorithm is showing people, but in the past it was television, radio, newspapers, family, friends, community etc.

I started watching this thinking I would stop a few minutes in and ended up watching the whole interaction. This is what we need right now. People talking civilly to one another and each listening to the other side. Sean, I think you played an important role here in being willing to express what you have experienced in terms of the algorithm and your personal exposure influencing your understanding on the issues. You are not alone. So many are experiencing this and it is something we as humanity need to understand and develop systems to protect us from fast spreading misinformation. Thanks for doing this interview and for being receptive and respectful. Please register to vote and vote, (we need Gen Z to become active politically…. So much is leading to the future planet you and your children will inherit… climate, mass shootings, reproductive healthcare, access to education and books, equality for all races, religions, etc…. ) but please vote only after doing your independent research on the issues instead of listening only to the loudest voice on your social media algorithms.

David Pakman here is a role model when it comes being informed. Sean Kelly here is a role model when it comes to being open to new information that conflicts with previous beliefs. I hope everyone who watches this goes and does their own research outside of social media to find accurate information about the stories and topics they care about.

It's unfortunate that people are so quick to dunk on someone for saying _"I didn't know that."_ While you'd obviously like for people in general to be as informed as possible, admitting to your ignorance is a billion times more commendable than just trying to bullshit your way through it to save face. It's a level of candid honesty that has to be respected and, frankly, encouraged. I think you'd see this quality in people a lot more if they weren't afraid of being attacked over it or seen as somehow weak because of it; like we must constantly be projecting strength through acting as though we always know everything. To the contrary, it takes courage and integrity to concede our ignorance. Indeed, beginning from a starting point of acknowledging what it is that we do not know is a fundamental cornerstone of science, philosophy, and ultimately getting closer to the truth. Props to you.

Came here from David's channel to show some love. Much respect for you, you're open mind and willingness to learn. I too didn't know a lot about politics or economics before finding David, and always voted Republican, but found him searching for answers and someone to help me get through the craziness of the 2020 election and what was to follow. As a previous cheap Republican, one bit of advice I would give you is, stop buying $70,000 cars, get a financial advisor and start investing that money. Just my opinion though. 🙂 Oh, and get out and vote! I prefer blue now.

38:25 David brings up an excellent point here that should probably be given more attention. Beyond the percentage rates for taxes, it matters far more the specific kinds of taxes that are used, they each affect the economy in very different ways, positively and negatively. A few examples: Income tax: By far the most efficient and effective in terms of generating revenue while also being fair to most people since it's a progressive tax, with a fairly high standard deduction and lower rates for those who earn less. If your goal is to fund the government and to do so in an equitable way, this type is what you should be focused on. The average income tax rate for Americans is around 15% yet it makes up 49% of the country's tax revenue. Sales tax: Effective for funding but generally bad for the economy. It slows down the economy directly by making just about everything more expensive at the point of sale. It also disproportionately affects lower and middle-income people because they are the ones who need to spend a large percentage of their money on necessities, meanwhile the wealthy just sit on theirs in investments. Though there are some instances where a sales/transaction tax could do a lot of good, for example, a small 0.1% tax on all transactions has been floated as a way to cool down the stock market trading and reduce instability within it without hurting the average person's portfolio. Only huge corporations making millions of transactions a week benefit from the current lack of such a tax at the expense of everyone else who relies on a stable market. Corporate tax: A good idea, but effectively pointless with the number of loopholes that currently exist to bypass it. Despite its relatively high rate, it makes up less than 9% of the federal tax revenue. If those loopholes were closed or the tax was more streamlined, it would be a different conversation. Wealth/property taxes: It depends on how you use them. For example, a tax on property that goes unused. Say you own a huge building and the land around in some downtown area, but you keep it empty because the property was overvalued, nobody can afford the rent, and nobody is willing to buy it off of you for more. That right there kills entire cities, an indirect subsidy from the government to offset your poor speculative investment decision, that space could be used for a thousand productive activities, which can themselves be taxed. So a large tax on such empty spaces is a good way to knock off these sore losers who refuse to take a loss at everyone else's expense. A general land-use tax is another way to go about it, taxing the value of unused land that people just own because it's guaranteed to appreciate in value even if nothing productive is done on it. The same principle applies. Pigouvian tax: Also known as "sin" taxes. A tax placed on goods or services that have negative effects on the wider economy and society. So there's the obvious stuff like taxes on alcohol and nicotine products, penalties for pollution, carbon taxes, etc. Basically, it acts as a disincentive to doing these anti-social, societally damaging activities and an indirect incentive to push for an alternative or to limit the damage caused by those activities. TLDR: Taxes aren't created equal and there are a lot of nuances to be discussed for each type and how they can be implemented.

I was thinking the same "Thang". 🙃🤭 Actually, you stated your point very well and thoroughly. 🤓

Thank you for this summary, Proff! I wish I didn't quit economics. Media reporters should have to educate the public when they bring up these conversations in the news.
@AsobiMedioАй бұрын
@@sophien5416 I'm no professor but with the amount of misinformation or just plain ignorance on the topic I may as well be. Most of my knowledge of economics is self-taught over the years. Schools below the college level barely touch on the subject and I could never afford to go to university. Turns out that when you actually "do your own research" it takes a long time and some real work, but you learn something useful by the end of it. Unlike the people who parrot the phrase but never crack open a textbook or scholarly PDF in their lives.

I have a feeling because that’s because, if you look at the number of views of most of Sean‘s videos they are either in the 100s, less than 100 (even for videos that have been on here for weeks), or a few thousand at most. I think this interview with David Pakman is his most viewed video, at least for the last few weeks, as I’m scrolling through his video list. Over 21,000 at this point. How does Sean have over 1 million subscribers when most of his videos have so few hits? Anyway, since this video has 4 to 10 times more views, I think most of the extra hits are from people who originally saw this video on David Pakman’s channel, hence more comments from them.

Just came over to give the interview a "view" because of David. I finished watching it on his channel and decided to watch it here as well just to see, and I do give you props for posting it in Full and not cutting it up. I love how objective David always is and how he states the facts but also encourages you to fact-check him on it as well. Sean seemed very willing to listen and hopefully absorb some things; he said he was very analytical but didn't seem to be very up-to-date on a lot of the facts regarding the things he supports.
