Uncovering the Mysteries of America’s Weirdest Town. Santa Cruz, California.

In this episode we explore the Majestic Santa Cruz, California by mountain and sea. We visit Henry Cowell Redwoods, defy gravity at the elusive mystery spot, Soak up the fun at the legendary boardwalk, stay at the haunted Brookdale lodge, go to the El Palomar downtown, and cross paths with Bigfoot.

Yes! When I bartended at the Lodge in 2001. I wasn’t aware of the history of the place at the time. It was eerie, and fascinating at the same time. I now work in the market and a few times things have flown off the shelf. ✌️

My wife and I owned a home in Scotts Valley for 16 years. We left when we could no longer understand our neighbors, most were from the middle East and spoke little English. Our neighborhood was called Oak Creek, mostly engineers, they made incomes to afford the homes.

Mystery Spot is no one optical illusion. It's a gimmick. Optical illusions may be in play from room to room, though, such as when the relative height of two people appears to change when they swap positions on a seemingly level surface. Largely; figure it's all just trick architecture. Everything's built so objects will swing, roll, or fall counterintuitively. One telling point: Knott's Berry Farm is a number of hours' drive from there. It's a theme park replete with rides and costume characters. One feature is a cabin (with the neighboring structures) with tricksy aspects similar to those of The Mystery Spot.
