Like Ann, I take care of my Papa. I moved into my childhood home with my parents in 2018, when my mom was diagnosed with dementia. Sadly mom passed away in 2020. Since Papa was all alone and depressed I promised I would stay with him until the day he joins mom. I quit my job as a teacher and my husband agreed we needed to be here for him. Dad will be 90 years old this June. He has the usual aches and pains of the elderly and memory loss. But I made a promise and will never move him out of the home he built for our family. God told us to honor our father and mother. This is my way to honor God and PAPA at the same time.

Misty, you & Mark could hang vintage/antique tea towels to cover the metal. Just use little spring rods. That way you can change them out every once in a while. That would look so cute! I love history. Our house was built in 1842.

Maybe an antique floral lace overlay adhered to the metal front of the counter. it would mirror the floral in the wallpaper and new rugs. I was very close to my Mom and Dad, they were ill at the same time and I was their caretaker. They were married 60 years and passed away two months apart. I owe everything I am to them and I miss them so much❤

Papa, I know that loss! Lost both my Dad and mom within 5 yrs apart. Felt like I was finally starting to heal from holding my Mother in my arms as she took her last breath, then I had to hold my Dads hand and watch him pass. Feels like you lose the glue that held the family together, siblings I mean. I miss them both so very very much!!🥹🥹🥹❤❤❤

Your junk jar is actually a nut grinder. We had one when I was growing up. You put the nuts into the top part, put it back on the jar and turn the key to grind nuts for baking.

Papa ♥ Shortly after Momma passed and the boys and I would go to her house to work, they would look for their "Gammy" and it would break my heart. I wonder still what went through their minds when they could smell her but not find her. Not gonna lie...this totally made me cry!

This looks like a wonderful book and honor to her Papa. As a retired teacher, I have found that we need more books that deal with this subject matter for kiddos. I have just started watching your videos and am totally hooked! I see slot of myself on you as I was known in my 3rd grade class as "The Crazy Teacher", in a good way of course. OMGosh, that book sounds like my story. My mom passed away when I was 13 & i had been the one to oversee my dad's care until he passed away, last year (the day after my mom's passing day). He was 98 years young. I do miss my "Papa."

The table looks perfect the long way - it makes the room look longer. Very inviting for people to lure them into the space. Needs a beautiful centerpiece on it. And what would be pretty is if you set it for the pop up - depending on the season. Pick up some dishes at Goodwill or something.

That GREEN!!! 😱 My house was built in 1930 and my entire kitchen, cabinets included, was THAT green. It was the original color and original old heavy enamel like thick thick paint. Nothing would cover it. Everything had to be sanded down. Talk about awful dust! I came out of there every day looking like the Hulk. 😂

PAPA! Sounds like a wonderful book. My high school boyfriend passed away from his bout with polio he contracted when he was a child. He had been married for 40 years to his loving wife. He left behind his 2 wonderful dogs and were mentioned in his obituary. I'm sure they miss him especially since it said he was known as "the king of treats!" I often think about his dogs, or any dog that loses a caregiver. I have cats and although one is more loving than the other I don't feel they'd miss me as much as a dog would. I care for my daughter-in-law's dogs when I'm baby sitting. They are always so excited to see me and visually sad when I leave. 🐕

What a great friend you are to share Ann’s new book. I have my copy ordered. I’ve been watching Ann since Lucy and Max. I love the history of your store! Those wallpaper fragments look perfect on the brick 🧱. Love the new area rugs & never would’ve guessed they were indoor/outdoor 😮. Mark would probably know better than me, but I think the best way to preserve your wood flooring would be to gym seal it. That’s probably the most cost effective way as well. If you took heavy cardboard and stapled or glued seasonal fabric to it, you could change out the look of your counter easily and inexpensive. Of course a velvet would look great too 🤔. Looking forward to seeing you decorating the shop. You have beautiful taste and it’s going to look amazing! I noticed how grey your eyes look in the tops you wore today, stunning!!

Papa It sounds like a beautiful story. Misty where you plan on covering the metal, why don't you make it where you can put up art work, advertisements, posters and make it so you can change it through out the seasons. Make a frame with a plexiglas cover that can come off and you can change it very easy and then just snap the fronts back in place. You could even show off some Liberace!!❤
