Question of the Day: What has been your favorite random place you found when you weren't planning to find it?
@sandracarpenter1442 жыл бұрын
Pickles Gap Arkansas. My ex and I went to see his parents in Arkansas. It too has an interesting history of immigrants in this country.

A small opening in some thick bushes that led to a sun filled opening with a beautiful little crystal clear stream. This was at a campground near Garden Of The Gods in Colorado. It was so hidden all surrounded by big rocks and dense bushes. It was the perfect place for me to go and hide when I wanted to be alone. I was 8 years old and told no one it was there. 😄

Over a week ago I was the ground crew for a men's tandem canoe that did the MR 340 race. I drove all the back roads from Kaw Point, Kansas City Kansas to St Charle ,Missouri. I spent one night in Washington, Missouri after spending the afternoon I Herman. It was so much fun. I plan to do a fall trip from KC to St Charles in the big van with my husband. Who I found out our family has been througenout of some of the best European countries or are German draft daugers...

We enjoy days like this finding a place that is not as well known and then becomes quite special.

My sister told me about a travel card she gets from her bank. It is a visa prepaid credit card she uses for gas so her regular credit card is not used in gas pumps. It is also refundable if lost. My brother lost his and had no problem getting it replaced.

Once again a wonderful museum tour. Well done! Have you ever taught school? I think you would do a great job of getting young people exited about history.

Very interesting. My heritage is primarily German and English, then the usual mixture of everything else. A good American mix.

Great Museum. My favorite find was the original Old Cemetery in Tombstone, AZ not the tourist Boot Hill.

Very interesting. I am an American of many cultures. The German in me comes from my Mom’s side; German and Slovenian mostly. My Finnish and Irish heritage comes from my Dad. His Dad was Irish. His Mom was Finnish, and Swedish; mostly Finnish. My Great Grandparents from Finland didn’t speak English; they spoke coffee (with sugar cubes and cream, and sweets to go along with it), and love. 💕 Later, I learned that the Finnish people actually have a coffee culture. I didn’t know this growing up; the tradition was just normal to us. After the dinner dishes are all cleared and washed, out comes the coffee and all the goodies. Finlanders put at least seven different choices on the table; such as pastries, pound cake, pies, crackers, cookies, Melba toast, and Finnish pulla bread. Finnish people also love saunas. Of course they do; it is very cold in Finland, and MN in the wintertime. There is a lot of Finnish culture to be learned in my birth state of MN, and also in the northern states of WI, MI, ND, and SD. Hope to travel these states again some day. I thank God for my heritage, and love to learn more and more about it. 💕🙏🏻

Once again you get a 100% - you are so so good at the videos like these. You need to be a tourist guide for someone who would send you all over the world ( or maybe just USA )...anyway. this was just wonderful and what a great town. Very nice job on how well the have that museum set up. Gosh I hope one day to visit. Some years ago I would watch a Travel channel with a lady that travelled and did things like this. It was so good - especially when I would not be able to go to many of those locations. It was nice to watch. You would be super at that. The little that I am aware of....some of my Mom's family - when arrived in the USA they had to give up a child ( do not know how many) to other family's so they could afford to live in the USA. Irish. From my Dad - giggles....he said he was wild Indian ( native) ( sort of like me as a kid ) and the other maybe German and European. .( i so hope I did not offend any one with that comment - it was just how my Dad being silly put it to me) If I did - I do apologize and am so sorry.) BUT for now I love that you do this on KZbin and share with all of us....hugs and many blessing and safe travels!!!

Oh Bunny, another great museum field trip! It's great to know I am not the only one who nerds out at the small historical museums. If you are ever in South Eastern Washington...east of Kennewick there is the only gas station in the US that is shaped like a teapot. It has been closed for years (I think the prices on the pumps were maybe less than two dollars). But what I find interesting is there is no hint why they built a teapot shaped gas station. I love the largest whatever in the world road side attractions. I'm in love with driving anyway, so I'm usually on my where to. But, if I have a choice between inter-state or two lane highway, I'm on the highway, or scenic byway for sure. Where did my folks come from? I know they came from England. I also know that one of the first two white men in the "new world" had the name John Richard Archer. My dad's name was Richard John Archer. The last name Archer is not as common as you might think. Again thanks for the fun and informative video. OH, wait! there's more! You seem to be headed west, and may already come and gone from Colorado...but there is an Anheuser-Busch facility in Fort Collins. It's been several years since I was there but they had a great brewery tour and a stable full of Clydesdales including a three month old with his mom.

It was amazing I would love to come back and visit the Clydesdales!!
@gregaustin81147 ай бұрын
They’re not actually Clydesdales, they’re black shire horses. Very similar and in the same family, but are more work horses than show horses.

They generation ahead of me have done a lot of work to collect this information. My Dads history includes a journey from Norway and a published book of that journey. My Moms side of the family has published her lineage from Scotland. The information is a treasure that I have found worth investing in.

Bunny very interesting. As I listen to you, I think of your mother. Was she a teacher? I thought through one of your vlogs, you mention that. She has taught you well. Sound just like a teacher, thumbs up👍👍👍👌👌👌👌. Keep up the good work. Like your adventures! Take care. 👍🤓

Thank you so much for this video! I visited Hermann last month and toured two of the houses but didn’t have time to tour the museum and was sad I missed it. In a search for information about German settlers in Missouri I found this video and feel like I learned more with your highlights and explanations than I would have learned if I visited in person:)

I am soooo happy you found the video to be useful in filling in the blanks!!! That is one of the goals I have with all the attractions and stops i visit. I hope to inspire others to get out and see the world but also for us all to learn about it!!

I love history I just can't take my tinker tot and you are so close to me just a few hours away literally one of these days if you hit up Missouri or Iowa let me know ahead of time and I can meet you at a place like this and have like a kid free day or two that would be amazing and a quiet museum like that wouldn't make my anxiety go crazy but I am working on getting some medication to help my anxiety so I can start feeling more places but I would love to hang out with you sometime I think we would have a lot of fun in a place like that

Hey, I made my trip to Branson Mo this last few days and I did try the restaurants you've suggested and Cakes and Cream was very good and a movie was an extra treat. I also saw Reza which was awesome. On my way home I checked out Missouri Down Under and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homes. Thank you for your suggestions in your videos. Safe travels.

France is known for its wine, and since you didn't mention it, you might read up on how the vineyards around the Hermann area saved the French wine industry. As for Winston Churchill, it was at Westminster College in Fulton where he coined the term, "Iron Curtain" Great video Bunny, really enjoyed it.

Do the people there still understand German? If I walked into a cafe and started ordering my food in standard Hochdeutsch, would they understand me?

I would absolutely be in heaven in there. No roped off rooms. Do you know how hard it would be for me not to touch things. Not to be disrespectful of the rules but just to touch history. So hard to explain exactly what i mean.
