Sophie Lyman, a cellist from North Carolina, is in her third year of undergraduate studies at UNCSA studying with Brooks Whitehouse. This summer Sophie studied with cellist and composer Andrea Casarrubios at NEO EXCELLENCE in Altea, Spain. She also studied at Vermont’s Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival with Thomas Mesa and Christine Lamprea, the cellists who premiered Andrea’s works, “SEVEN” and “Armadura.” She was the third place winner of the Grand Teton Music Festival’s Scholarship Competition and soloed with the Brigham Young University Symphony Orchestra and the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony. Her love of learning and performing has taken her many places including China, the Czech Republic, Idaho, Ohio, and Utah.
