Fantastic flash! Ashima is incredible. Idk why so many people in the comments seem so riled up about her friends saying “come on” so much, lol. It’s literally just a supportive noise people make when friends do hard things. I didn’t even notice until reading the comments bc it’s such typical background noise. Almost every bouldering video I see is full of people saying things like that? Nothing different in this case. Anyway, really cool climb to watch.

Impressive, but I did down climb out of bed and flashed a climb onto my couch today. Didn't even use chalk.

I love how the guy tries to help her with ‘where he put his right foot’. After ashima shakes out, she uses her own foot a little bit higher. Classic interaction between tall climber helping with beta for a shorter climber
@bonyphi124 жыл бұрын
He’s actually pretty short. Only a couple inches on Ashima. Also when going for the flash, the spray can be incredibly helpful.

Like a lot of people, I was all in awe of that Joe's Valley video of Drew Ruana "making quick work" of a bunch of V10, 11, 12s. I think that puts Ashima's level right now in perspective--she's right up there at the top, guys included.
@arcanaworms4 жыл бұрын
Drew did 18 V10-V14 problems in a 3 day span. 18! Fucking unheard of. V12 Flash is absolutely incredible but these two things are not even comparable.
@bboyHarrypotter4 жыл бұрын
Drew Ruana is a whole different beast, but yes, Ashima is very close to the current human-peak of outdoor bouldering. I think she's climbed 2 V15 (8C) boulders, and dozens of V14 (8B+) boulders - for all intents and purposes, the "top" of bouldering.

Not quite, ive seen alex puccio flash harder and even still i dont think she holds the record. Thats not to take away from ashima and this insane achievement. It bewhilders me that I'm the strongest climber Ive ever met in person and there are people who can flash above my redpoint grade... with ease. I once heard alex megos talk about a flash attempt of a lead route, something to the effect of " there is a 7C+ section, goes into an 8A, followed by another 7C+ section... its basically impossible for me to fall." These people are on a whole other level.

Getting beta mid go is so annoying. I understand this is a flash so more understandable and maybe she's just in for the flash and not just the send, but if I were about send a proj and someone would give me beta like this I would jump off the thing like sending isn't just about are you physically fit enough its also is your mind game on point. Again I guess this is different as a flash go but idk feels annoying. (not saying she needed the help)

Men of bouldering - please stop spraying women down with beta and calling them "dude" while they're climbing. Awesome video, love the casual rest in the middle!
@karlboveng38564 жыл бұрын
Don't know about the 'dude' part being universal, but somehow I don't think she needed that foot pointed out.
@stephantom82374 жыл бұрын
Karl Boveng kinda doubt the “dude” or the spray was unwanted, as those were her friends/coach, and as others have pointed out, when trying to flash such a high grade, climbers generally welcome every advantage they can get, as long as it’s still fair (granted, she didn’t need or use it in this case). And lots of people treat “dude” as gender neutral. I do and I’m a woman.

I think we as men definetely need to overthink the „motivational“ shouts and beta spraying when a woman climbs. It is obviously intended to motivate but reflects sexist understanding of roles and keeps a lot of women from believing in their abilities. And don‘t you tell me we treat male climbers the same - there is a substantial difference between cheering up and lecturing.
@Daniel-ry3or3 жыл бұрын
Uhm... What? You've watched other climbing videos right? This is absolutely not a gender specific thing. These guys have been climbing together for ages and are good friends,she likely specifically requested the spray to help with the flash attempt and if she didn't want the hypeing, she would have told her friends by now. Personally, I find it annoying, both in videos and when I'm climbing, which is why I've told me friends to avoid shouting encouragement at me, but I'm not self reichheous(spelling?) enough to turn it into something about sexism
