Northern California’s Julia Morgan quietly broke barriers and overcame obstacles. She was the first certified female architect in California and the first American woman to head her own architectural office, leading her to become one of America’s preeminent architects. Her designs would grace private homes, college campuses, women’s clubs, religious houses, YWCAs, and, most famously, William Randolph Hearst’s legendary San Simeon estate. The Julia Morgan tour takes an in-depth look at the life and career of this extraordinary woman. View rarely-seen areas of Hearst Castle that highlight her gift for design, and photographic displays of architectural drawings, family photos, and personal items that reveal the person she was.
Over the years many guests have visited Hearst Castle, but we’ll narrow the list down to the more renowned:

Love the tour guide. My parents used to live on the Hearst Ranch in the 80s and worked for the Hearst corporation. My mom waited on and took care of the Hearst private guests. My mom met Jimmy Stuart, Loretta Young and other celebrities. She said Jimmy Stuart was a sweet darling person. It was such fun to visit, we would walk down to the beach and look for shells for hours while the kids would surf. I’ll never forget our times there😊

I first toured Hearst Castle in January, 1964, when my older brother and I drove up. Big adventure for a 13 year old. I knew that our architect grandfather, Dr. Kurt Meyer Radon, had worked for Hearst buying furniture for the Santa Monica beach house and for Wyntoon. I also have an old friend, John Considine, Jr., whose father was a producer at MGM (Young Tom Edison, Boys' Town) and was good friends with Hearst and Marion Davies. Marion was the maid of honor at his parents' wedding. John visited San Simeon many times as a child. He once remarked that "I learned to swim in the big outdoor pool at the Hearst Ranch. Hollywood royalty.

That was AMAZING! I’ve been twice and saw the much more limited tours. But this would have been so much fun to do. Can’t imagine how much this tour costs. Mr. Moore, the guide, clearly loves his work.

That man is very knowledgeable of the buildings and grounds. And it sounds like he really enjoys taking tours through them. Anway, years ago, I visited the castle around Christmas time. It was beautifully decorated, and it was raining which just added to the already festive atmosphere. I just wish that some of the many fireplaces there would have been going. That would have been the proverbial icing on the cake. Provided they are still functional.

In 1967-68, my dad took us to Hearst Castle for a tour. For some reason, we were turned away. I always regretted not being able to see it. Now, watching this, I'm glad we were turned away. Is the place beautiful? Definitely. But the long drive just to get to the castle and then having to listen to a sycophantic tour guide drone on and on about nothing but the architect, I would have been begging my parents to take me back home. While I honestly am appreciative for this video, for having the opportunity, finally, to see it, the subjects that the guide chooses to talk about are boring as hell. Sycophantic with a touch of narcissistic. And not enough about Hearst or the property without injecting more about Julia Morgan.

Wow… sour grapes?! You missed out on something still to this day which is considered a wonderful experience! I highly recommend any tour of Hearst Castle for the grand beauty, history, and priceless art. This gentleman is quite gracious and informative. Quite honestly the only boring narrative droning on is your comment. Good day.
