Not mistakes really; because A.) he was preoccupied already and the films he did instead were very pivotal in his career - My Name Is Khan (his best performance) over 3 idiots, Kal Ho Naa Ho (one of his best films) over MunnaBhai, and undeniably Sanjay Dutt was perfect for it; and K3G instead of Lagaan, may not be as great a film but it made him the megastar he is especially in the overseas. B.) many of his biggest hits and best films were originally offered to other actors - Baazigar and Darr were offered to 5/6 actors like Salman, Aamir, Ajay before him (yet he took the risk and portrayed the anti-hero amazingly); DDLJ to Saif Ali Khan (arguably the most iconic bollywood film + thank god he did it), Swades to Hrithik (one of his best movies/roles) and Chak De India to Salman (can you imagine lol). So at the end of the day you win some and you lose some, everything happens for a reason.
