Under and over a mountain to find a missing glacier!

Of all 6000+ sketches contained in my grandmother Lu’s 103 sketchbooks, I choose the one where the subject has gone missing! Come along with me as I finally find the Alaskan glacier Lu sketched before I was born.

My Grandmother left behind 103 sketchbooks with over 6,000 sketches that documented her travels around the globe, as well as daily life at home. Most of them are little outlines or notes from an adventure, which she often developed into amazing watercolor paintings, quilts and even book illustrations. My favorite sketches are the ones where she added a splash of color with watercolor or colored pencil.
I am beginning to see if I can re-trace her travels and footprints to find the exact locations where she sketched. Sketching in my own personal style the changing landscapes and leaving behind my own collection of sketchbooks to pass on to the next generation of global art citizens.

Just curious what type of ink your grandmother used in the drawings? India ink and pen then watercolor?

Just a black waterproof ink pen. Often just a waterproof sharpie or even just ball pens, too. Her supplies we rather humble. Even using colored pencils and crayons. Thank you so much for watching!
