Looks good! Run some wires through the cabinets and behind the refrigerator so you can add more lights at the bottom of the baseboard bottom cabinets!! That’s how I did mine. Top, middle and bottom!

Couple of things...1) Great job...finished product looks really nice. 2) Can you explain how you were able to wire up 2 different segments (upper and lower lights) using the same board? 3) You might want to include a short explanation on how the data flows using the arrows on the strips.

We added a wiring diagram here: tinyurl.com/7f965rvc, however this does not cover how I control both upper and lower. I didn’t include this just because everyone’s set up would depend on their kitchen layout. However, I’m currently running it in sort of a parallel configuration. I split the data line from the d1 mini to go to both the start of the upper and lower. The upper cabinets had a few more leds so I just set wled to the upper cabinet number of leds. I may go back and actually make it all one strip, then take advantage of the “segments” feature in wled.

Pretty solid yiou added alu strip for a spot most people never even see. Was that done preventing dust and dirt to get to the lights?

I have old school undercabinet lighting wired to regular wall light switches. One important thing I like with any automation is that regular switches work for the people who don't know the voice command or have an app on their phone. Interested in ways to get control of a regular wall switch to turn the cabinet lights on/off as well as dimmer control. Any ideas?

In this case I would suggest something like a smart dimmer. The tp link kasa smart dimmer, or something like the Shelly dimmer would be an excellent way to add this functionality. Both options leave a physical switch intact but also open up smart possibilities!

Hi, what are the wires that you used to connect pins from the controller to the logic level shifter and so on for the breadboard - they had male wire ends at each end, eliminating the need for soldering. Also, which breadboard did you use for this project? Thanks, Great Build!

Hey Will, when on the breadboard I used just standard breadboard jumper wires with male ends on both sides. These and the breadboards were found on Amazon. I can try to get some links if you’d like. Once taken to a final product I did switch everything over to 18 or 20 gauge wire and DuPont connectors. However, if I were to do this again, I would use JST connectors as they have a locking mechanism that you don’t get with DuPont connectors. Hope this helps!

I’m controlling the lights using wled. However I use home assistant tied to my Amazon echo devices to control them most of the time.

I’d feel a lot better running the strip lighting right off the power supply and not through the breadboard.

Did you not use any power injection? I have a similar setup and it was impossible to get running with the 5v PSU. Had to switch to 24v transport line with a ton of 24v to 5v buck converters. It was a nightmare.

Thank you for this. I think you forgot something incredibly important. Your power supply is a death trap. Would be good to at least mention that an enclosure is a must, if you don't want to kill your wife and kids. I'm sure you wouldn't try to touch those contacts, but kids or even guests might. Apart from that: great project! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Death trap is a bit strong. Life is full of risks. Instead of plug covers, I put a bowl of pennies on the coffee table. 120v won't kill you, will just teach a valuable life lesson.
