Even as Khrushchev and co. went to great lengths to make (overblown) cult around Stalin (that he personally despised) as a mean of the political struggle in the country, he (Stalin) was a hero to the common people in the Soviet Union and to the progressive people abroad. And after all, Stalin was a symbol for all the people in those years who pushed Soviet Union (and the world) forward into the progress, counter to the people who wanted (and constantly tried) to see it fail...

Of course some people were against Communists, ones were against the system as an ideology that is blocking their enrichment, others were angry at opportunists who sneaked in the positions of "power" and tarnished the Communist party in places where they work, its all natural and dynamic etc... Some socialist countries try different methods, different amount of damaging capitalist relations. Problems in China ALL originate because of the less socialist economy flow, thus more capitalist relations damage the overall integrity of the social relations...etc Point is that even most socialist country need some capitalist relations to be able to exist in hostile capitalist world. (one being money for instance and all what comes with it). Capitalism.. is there even one positive thing today?

I have no Utopian illusions, but you clearly do. So long as there are people there will be suffering. The free enterprise system is not the answer to anything because it wasnt created to be an answer. Its not a solution. Its just the best system that so far has been created. It is not 100% efficient, far from it, but a magnitude more than anything else. Socialism could be perfect, the only problem is people. Free enterprise republics limit the impacts of others bad decisions+promote the good

If Czarist Russia would have been allowed to make its transformation to a parliamentary democracy like the United Kingdom, it would be THE richest country in the world. About me, I hate the Czar because he was only 1/64th Russian. Non Russians have no right to dictate the future of the Russian people. I am a pragmatist first and foremost. My family in those days was very poor (but educated) and now just middle class. I'm not religious at all, Agnostic if you want to put a label on it.

I know the history of my country (Russia), you don't need to repeat it to me. The only reason there was any success at all is because 1) institutions of education, etc were inherited from CZARIST russia (im no monarch, though) and preserved. and 2) The inherent genetic potential of ethnic Russian people. Notice, other "communist" countries had no discoveries of any kind really. Plus my family personally knew Basov, the laser inventor, he hated communism as did his research partner.
