Soon-to-be husband and wife team, Jeff Malinowski and Amal Bouhabib, bring their incredible Basement Band harmonies to Red Hook to deliver their new single, "July" (appropriately enough, on a gorgeous July afternoon following a gig they played at the Brooklyn County Fair). With the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the Statue of Liberty forming a backdrop, the scenery was as easy on the eyes as the harmonies were on the ears.
Their new EP, "July" (New Wheel Records) is a 5-track collection of tunes recorded live, to capture the magic inherent in a band whose harmonies and playing styles are synched so organically. With drummer John Durgee and James Preston on bass, the quartet have appeared in myriad post-country lineups throughout the city that have spun out of the Honky Tonky Happy Hour scene established at the Living Room, but the Basement Band lineup has a special magic that must be seen live to be truly felt.
