A couple of days ago I listened to Come out and Play and I asked myself how they did the cover, since the computer technology wasn't great. I also told myself that they would never use a real manhole cover, since it would be to expensive to produce. But I guess, I was wrong. I love the behind the scenes of the music of band that I love for decades

This is awesome. Despite being on the young side when Twisted Sister was at the top of their game (I was 9 when Come Out and Play was released), they were the 1st band I remember liking because my older brother (7 year difference) was a huge Twisted Sister fan. Last night I read a new interview with Dee Snider and I decided to listen to their 1st 4 albums. I pretty much got out of Twisted Sister when I starting discovering other bands like Poison, Motley Crue, G 'n R, AC/DC, etc. I was never too familiar with TS's 1st 2 albums; I was mostly into Stay Hungry and Come Out and Play. The 1st 2 albums have some really good songs, as I discovered last night. I only knew the songs "Run for Your Life" and "The Kids are Back" off those 2. Stay Hungry is their most accessible and it's the album I'm most familiar with. Since it had been probably 30 years since I had listened to Come Out and Play I only remembered the 1st 2 songs on the album, "Come Out and Play" and "Leader of the Pack", but then as I listened to it I started to realize I knew all the songs. As far as my favorite TS goes, Stay Hungry is the one I knew front to back, but I have a nostalgic soft spot for Come Out and Play. I feel like it got a bad rap when it was released and is a much better album than what history says. I remember when I was a kid the album sounded like a horror movie soundtrack, as several of the songs sounded sinister. The record album sleeve probably had something to do with it, as well, as Dee Snider looked like a creature coming out of the manhole surrounded by green light and fog. It would be a good album to listen to on a dark and stormy October night.

This is worth gold! My mom gave me the LP that Christmas, 1985, and a few months later my dad took me to Gothenburg to see them live on the Come Out And Play World Tour. Så many good memories. Thank you for sharing this footage and telling these stories. Will definitely buy your book. :)

Excellent concept. The manhole cover was a great idea. I still have the LP that I bought in 1986. The die-cut and embossing must have cost the label a fortune. Unsurprisingly, the album was a flop. I liked only about three songs. Dee should have put more time into the songwrighting and stuck with what the band did best - hard rock/metal. It seemed like he was trying to be all things to all people. The songs were all over the place. Either way, it was one of the most adventurous covers of the 80s. Maybe with the resurgence of vinyl, artists will get creative with album covers again.
