They offer a large pool of skilled labour which allows London to maintain its relevance and they also bring lots of students who help UK universities stay at the top of the rankings. I'm not saying the UK couldn't survive on its own, but it would become much less relevant considering most of the people in high up posts are either Asian or from another continent that isn't Europe.
