I don't know if it applies to amibos but in the spirits mode, attack spirits take 1.2x more damage from defense types, and defense types take 0.8x as much damage from attack types. This typing goes around in a triangle like Fire, Water and Grass type in pokemon, where Fire is attack, Water is defense and Grass is grab. Neutral type spirits ignore this triangle.
