Even more balanced twist: your handicap is equal to the points you're ahead of last place. So if you're 1 point ahead, you start with 10. 5 points is 50, 6 points you start at 80 etc. And this goes for everyone, not just the winner

My friends and I had a random tournament a little while back. The commentators/refs were aware of the random "victory criteria," but the players weren't. Like one game, the player who advances is the one who landed the most n-airs or took the highest % damage. If Little Z hosts another tournament, that might be a fun bracket to play through on the side.

Here's an idea based on what I thought the video would be judging by the title The goal is to lose, but not entirely. It's not just a jump in the void quickly. You fight normally UNTIL it's the final 2. However, second place is the winner. The moment it's a 1v1, whoever dies first wins. So if you edgeguarded someone, you can just not recover. Idk something about this makes me think it would actually be very fun and entertaining.

Poppt is 100% right, it's not a balancer. If your behind by 3 with 3 matches to go you'll have to win starting at 0 50 and 100%. It's like if in Mario cart you were in last place but it gave items based on who had the fastest last lap instead of current placement

I have an alternative way to improve this to the other comments. 1) Keep that the winner of the previous round starts at 50% 2) Add that the overall leader(s) of wins starts with an addition 50% The overall leader always starts at no lower than 50%. If they also won the last round, they start at 100%. If someone else won, there are two players starting at 50%. If multiple players are tied for the most wins, they each start with the minimal 50%.

What the rules should be is however many times you win, you multiply that by a designated percentage. That way, whoever is winning most starts off with the higher percentage hp. 20% or 30% added every win could be best because then after 7 wins, you’re starting with either 140% or 210% which could level the playing field and also lead to some funny final hit scenarios right at the start of the match.
