I live with my uncle and me and him got so bored one day that we wound up making one of these, kind of similar to this one, but with our own ideas, it's amazing how warm it kept the both of us, even in the blowing snow❄Keep up the good work.❤

@keakiwi12 жыл бұрын
wooden chimney certainly not a good idea
@jamesellsworth96732 жыл бұрын
A properly chinked and lined chimney is something to be treasured. In early North America, wood was often used for STRUCTURE in a chimney. It was then lined with clay to guard against fires. Hearths had a good bit of stonework and masonry to contain heat and flame.
@sumonelse19892 жыл бұрын
Agreed, this was the only problem I had with the design. I thought it was particularly alarming how he placed all that dry debris around it and the moss on top of his wooden chimney cap. Given the height of the chimney and the lack of a spark arrestor it strikes me as a pretty serious fire hazard.
@jamesellsworth96732 жыл бұрын
I enjoy learning from what each of you does with dugout shelters. In your case, you make use of post and beam joinery more than most bushcraft shelter builders. I LIKE to see that. Pegging timbers together says 'built to last a while." Along those lines, I would use wire ties rather than fiber ones.

I like watching the building of these shelters but always question where is soil so soft it makes it so easy to dig and rarely see any of these encounter roots/clay large rocks etc.
@PaddysBushcraft2 жыл бұрын
The magic of editing 🤣 top 6 inches was roots the next foot and a half was stone an rocks then the soft stuff
@jamesellsworth96732 жыл бұрын
@@PaddysBushcraft EDITING: good points. HOWEVER, those roots are well worth noting...even in passing. They take a good bit of time and energy to remove. Recording some of that is a cautionary tale, especially for those who might be new to the craft.

Interesting shelter Paddy. Looks quite comfortable it does. I’m not sold on the wooden fireplace you got going there however. I think 🤔, after seeing all those beautiful stones you had at your disposal, I think I would made a stone fireplace and mixed up some concrete from your local soils (do you have soil with some clay in it?) and dried it with a big fire inside. Was the bed comfortable at least? And finally could that work in winter lol? Something tells me it would need to be winterized lol. I subbed for more mate. Cheers thx a lot
@PaddysBushcraft2 жыл бұрын
Not much clay in soil around here would have to refine it to get any good clay . Which I plan to do at some stage .I cover chimney inside with mud but have to reapply after a full night of burning.ive had 3 all night fires so far and still no damage not sure about winter yet I don't think I could have a big enough fire it's a small fire place .I definitely plan on a stone fireplace in future.bed was ok not great.👍
