You'd probably want a little bit more if you're trying to insulate from heat generated by electromagnetic radiation, especially given that you have stone walls and they're very good at trapping that heat in. Basically if light can get through, you are looking at heat generation for all wave lengths not reflected. And if there's no easy way to vent said heat then you are looking at a village that will experience a runaway greenhouse effect.

This reminds me of when I placed glass on the ocean floor for a 200 x 200 block area, then with several buddies of mine, mined out the area beneath all the way to bedrock and created our own town with the ocean floor as our sky. It took an insane amount of time of over 2+ years but it's been our base ever since. It never fails to impress people. So worth it. But we're getting cramped. Maybe we'll expand....

Man, about ten years ago I was obsessed with world edit, and the whole circle would have been done in 3 commands ( about 10 seconds). Kudos to the guy for getting each block by hand.
