This video, more than anything I have seen or heard since its time, has impressed upon me the fact that in the 1970s and early 1980s we were still in the UK living in a "post-war" environment. The bleak scenery, sterile and already wearing 50s and 60s architecture. The grayness is overpowering. The song and the vid capture the essence of these surroundings perfectly. It was a truly analog life - simple and bland. No web, no smartphones, no satellite TV. We should have been bored, but we weren't.

Just come upon your comment. This electronic music can often lack a human quality, however that is a too easier fit. Austrity can be romantic from a distance especially mixed with nostalgia.. I like you lust for a spartan stark music environ...hope you agree.. one day..
@nationalsocialist83823 жыл бұрын
The post war/cold War period gave birth also to the krautrock scene, which while not as stark in its expression, and creativity, it had the same driver of finding ways to express frustration, of being kept from true joy, via music and music gatherings. Obviously accumulating into video and then the interwobble.

One of the finest electronic tracks ever recorded. In 1999 I was lucky enough to have been invited to travel on the bus with John for the Subterranean Tour. The atmosphere at the gigs, in particular at The Glasgow Barrowlands, Manchester Apollo and Shepherds Bush Empire, was more akin to football matches. He's loved. At the end of tour party in a London Hotel, John played some of his songs on a piano in the lobby. An extraordinarily talented and genuinely friendly gentleman 🧡

Ha! 79, synthpop began in 1970 with Kraftwerks "Rucksucc". Or you could place it beginning in 1974 with Kraftwerks release of "Autobahn" album. OR, 1978 with the release of "The Man Machine" album. Newman, by no extent, was first.
@darthmeow13705 жыл бұрын
Numan himself would never claim to be first, though he definitely has a claim to being one of the best. Beyond the Kraftwerk stuff which was also influential, he was particularly enamored of Foxx and Ultravox and in fact is on record saying they were his musical heroes and what he aspired to be like before he became big.
