Everyone else was all about Dragon ballZ but The HNK animated film was what got me into the series. When people talk about influence DBZ will always get mentioned before Hokuto no ken no matter what. I ordered the complete series of the manga from Japan and watched the anime alongside to help me understand what was being said, but Hara's visual storytelling abilities transcend language barriers. I think the movie is comes close, as well as the later Gaiden movies do a great job of capturing the beauty of the art, the manga is beautiful to look at even when there is grotesque dismemberment. happening. I was watching anime movies like studio ghibli and loved howl's moving castle and my brother-in-law said I should watch fist of the north star. One night I was staying with my sister and my brother-in-law played the movie I watch part of it before my medicine kicked in and went to sleep. Later I decided to find the movie and watched it. It was the coolest movie I've ever seen later I found the anime series on VRV and the manga on a manga reader app. The rest is history

Interestingly enough, I recently learned that as it turns out the author of Berserk (Kentaro Miura) had illustrated for Buronson at various points in much of his work, albeit mostly for work outside of Fist of the North Star, but not exclusively outside of it. The western audiences know hokuto no ken since the late eighties, some great translation adaptations have been released in europe. Also, Kenshiro is indeed based on Mad Max and Bruce Lee but he also has some main christics characteristics - crucified several times, being the savior of the end of this age and of the innocents, opposing the tyranny and its leaders, while Toki is maybe even more closely based on Jesus notably by his look, sacrifice and try to not use his skills through violence.

Surprisingly popular in my age group, early to mid 20s, mostly known for the memes but a decent amount of ppl have watched at least the first movie. Even more surprising, Berzerk has a TON of popularity in this age group despite its themes. What I love about Fist is the dramatic storytelling accompanied by those battle scenes. It's a mix that shouldn't work but works so well. The art, especially in the manga, is also attractive and breathtaking.

I will tell you all, if this anime is ever remastered in today's day and age, it will be the most popular anime in this decade because of the one thing that makes it nostalgic for us Hokuto fans: it's storyline. We must admit that we (Hokuto fans) have fell in love with the show is because of its storyline. A must admit. Not just because of its action fighting, suspense scenes but it is the storyline. The storyline is number one important in every anime. And this anime just gave it away and perfected the definition of a great storyline. I do see why, however, it is underrated and not known or actually is, known by some only for the meme "Omae wa mou shindeiru" and nothing else. Because of its release in the 80s is a explanation why it's not known today by today's anime fans - because "some" and I say.."some" anime fans only go for what is great graphics. Good graphics and scenes matter these days, so... In conclusion, if the anime gets its remastered along with the original storyline of 1 and 2, original music OST, sound effects, styles in a remastered rendition of Hokuto No Ken. I tell you guys and girls who have not seen this gem, I will tell you will be surprised and a must recommend anime/manga depending on your taste of anime/manga. Not to be force to let you know but to recommend what you are missing out. Again I tell you will be... SHOCKED

Great video! I think the main reason that Fist doesn’t get as much praise as it should in the U.S. is because of a lack of a complete English Dub of the series. The original Manga entertainment dub stopped right after Ken’s fight with Ameba. What a terrible place for the series to have an unresolved cliffhanger, right as we find out that Toki is alive🤦‍♂️ That pissed me off so much when I first saw the show on the late night showtime channel. I’m honestly surprised that another dub company like Funimation hasn’t picked up the license. I mean, they helped make Dragonball the American sensation it is today. Imagine what they could do for Fist’s popularity. Plus the show would be right at home on adult swim. But yes, the anime definitely has pacing and filler problems, especially in the shin arc. That was due to the fact that the manga was originally just supposed to be about Ken and Shin’s final confrontation and that’s it. The authors hadn’t planned for anything else, but then the manga became a hit, and they had to expand the mythos to keep it going. This is why the narrative doesn’t really find its formation until Toki and Roah are introduced. Kinda the same way that the original Dragonball didn’t find its flow until the martial arts tournament arc. Perhaps Fist could use a “ kai” treatment like Dragonball z(professional, approved by Toei). Though since Toei just released the entire series on blu-ray, I doubt they’d be willing to spend more money on it again so soon. Oh, and Bat’s name is meant to be translated as “Bart” in both Japanese and English. Just FYI. Keep up the great work, and you should check out the fist of the North Star video game on PlayStation 4, if you haven’t already. It’s the manga brought to life.

Imo, it's the greatest anime/manga of all time. I remember renting the VHS movie uncensored movie when i was 7. There was nothing like it in Europe at the time, or North America for that mater. If memory serves correct, this was even before Akira or DevilMan were released. This also inspired Sakigake Otokojuku creator, another severally underrated anime/manga. DBZimran did you see the Fist of North Star: The Legends of the True Savior? A series of 3 films and 2 OVAs from 2006 to 2008? This series compress much of the history but the animation is ok and have some very, very good new animation!!! It's a shame you don't have a full edition of the manga in USA! Here in Brazil we finnaly have the Extreme Edition (Kanzenban) current in #6 out of #14

I first watched the Hokuto no Ken theatrical movie in 1990. Since then I had seen it go through iterations and extended, but the original manga and anime cannot be surpassed. It also encourages me that videos like this passes an iconic story to newer generations. What I always say to my friends is that the violence is a mask over a very intimate story about love and forgiveness.

The first anime I ever watched and what a way to get into anime..still love this show so much, now playing the FOTNS game on the ps4..i hope the game and videos like this bring new viewers to the series, I'd also love a new version of the anime but I know that's asking too much in this day and age. 😂 Brilliant video, had to check it out again.

I would also add that i believe Kazuma Kiryu, of the Yakuza series, is heavily inspired by Kenshiro Backed by the fact that the studio that created Yakuza made a video game adaptation of FOTNS and fittingly, Kiryu's VA plays Kenshiro, and a lot of the supporting roles are played by the Yakuza cast as well (and did a pretty badass job at it, if you ask me)

I've been working my way though viz latest hardcover editions of the Manga and the artwork is beautiful. The books themselves are gorgeous and will make a nice display piece for my collection next to the berserk deluxe editions.

For anyone interested in getting a hard-cover version (in english) of the Fist of The North Star manga, there's currently an official version of it being sold on Amazon, (and other places, but I got mine from Amazon) and in my personal opinion it's a good buy if your interested in getting the manga. The manga has been converted to Volumes as do most re-done mangas today, I've purchased the first 3 vol and can say it's worth it. Only downside I can say is that the hard-cover version being sold is still being produced from where it stands today vol 4 isn't set to release until March 26th or so. Overall, for anyone interested in reading the manga the hard-cover version is a good choice👍

As of this post in 2022, Fist of the North Star manga is available in hardcover and on Kindle & Comixology. Only the first 4 volumes are available right now (up to the Jagi arc), but it looks like we'll be up to volume 7 by December 2022 (Souther arc.)
