All to say is simply WOW! What a man and his life story. I am surprised no-one has wrote a film or a mini-film of his life's work, especially since it a classic rags to riches story. That is true considering since his had several crashes in life whether it is the St Louis situation or his second marriage.

Halfway through this video... Make-up/fashion thats not why I'm here.. but the history and influence someone experience has on their achievements is fascinating, just got to the part of the video where Max escapes to the US... and had to comment as this video is captivating.

Thank you for posting this wonderful story. I love biographies and hoped my late husband’s spirit was watching it with me. Although he was a teacher like me, he started out as a barber like his father and grandfather. He was born and raised in St. Louis, which is where he barbered to begin with. I think he would have been as engrossed as I was with Max Factor’s story. The old 1940’s movie, “Meet Me in St. Louis”, revolves around the 1904 Fair. I never knew that Max Factor got his start there. BTW, since I’m a retired English teacher, I really love your accent! 🥰👍

Acually I don't live there but by boufriend does. Łódz means boat in Polish language 😂 It's origins date back to 14th- century. Horrific things happened there during second world war. It is too much to just explaing in one comment :)

Its a shame that his brand is not available in US! But it is sold in UK and the Middle East , I’m from Qatar and Max Factor is selling here in the drugstorse. I’m a vintage makeup collector and I have some of MF vintage cosmetics from old eras.

One correction, there were passports those days of course. They were hand written and often signed by the Tzar himself, but when it comes to someone like Max it was probably mid level Russian bureaucrat that provided the signature. I am in disbelief that Russian General would take the obvious risk to his career and position at the Court to help some Jewish family to escape to US. There was either a large bribe involved or it is a romanticized account and some entirely different circumstance that allowed him to escape.

Well, there were travel documents then, but no passports. Passports were invented around the time of the first world war when people migrated more commonly. The papers however, like you said, wouldve been signed by an official or even the tzar, but as I understand, they were esily faked. I do agree about the guard however, it’s how its relayed in all accounts, so its how I relayed it, but its either a hyperbole of what happened, or like you said, not the whole story. I just cant confirm so I didnt want to make assumptions without a clear source or solid reasoning

Well, however it was, more power to him for managing to escape with his family from the straitjacket of a deeply anti-semitic society to make good in a country where he didn’t even speak the language. Wonderful, heartwarming story, thank you for this.
