🧐 How do you separate air and why?
The air we breathe is composed of nitrogen, oxygen, argon and other gases. Air Liquide uses its pioneering Air Separation Units (ASU) to separate the different gases for use by its clients in healthcare 🏥 and industry 🏭.
How does it work? The air separation process is based on the fact that gases change from a liquid to a gas at different temperatures. This video shows you all the steps in the air separation process.
Air Liquide’s world-leading expertise and experience means the operation of our air separation units is not only adaptable to the different needs of those customers, but is safe, energy-efficient and making a meaningful contribution to cutting carbon emissions 🌍.

What about the neon and other rarer gases? Do you capture them as well? I've only ever seen the N2, O2, and Ar capture documented.

These are usually produced from sources where they are more abundant, like some mines and oil drills where they can be trapped. Capturing them directly from the atmosphere is not economically viable. Even CO2 isn't usually recovered because the levels are so low. For CO2, a combustion source is used for a concentration high enough.

Is there commercial equipment that can do the first three steps, I would like carbonic acid for swimming pool pH control?

how are there different regions of temperature within the same column?

For a distillation column, condenser which is also cooler is normally put at the top and reboiler which is heater is put at bottom, so normally the bottom compartment is hotter than the top

What do you do with the co2 that you recover?

@Mikael WATTIAU Has any company tried to recover the water and CO2 from the desorbtion process? Im doing research which tangentially involves this question. If you are knowledgeable would you like to chat? Most of the CO2 needs in our process comes from Direct Air capture. This is the only way to be truly carbon negative

At -177 or -179 degree Celsius, oxygen and nitrogen are still gases. So how can we only separate dinitrogen at -179/-177 degree Celsius at the first column?

High pressure....
@mohammedleyli8878
@mohammedleyli8878 3 жыл бұрын
It's the pressure difference between the two columns of the Hampson-Linde cycle. at first column, only Nitrogen liquefaction point is reached because the pressure is at 6bars, on the second column, Oxygen liquefaction point is now reached because it's in a pressure of 1.4bars.

Can you tell me if the medical oxígeno is pure oxígeno or it contains other gases?
@debbieweber6192
@debbieweber6192 3 жыл бұрын
The minimum purity standard for medical grade oxygen is 99.0%, suppliers may have a minimum of 99.5%. So, yes it does have traces of other atmospheric gases. 100% oxygen can actually do harm to the human body.
