Bakugo has gone under the most character development in My Hero Academia, but not a lot of people seem to understand him as a character. No I am not condoning anything Bakugo has done to Deku, Im just trying to show people that there is more to him than just his yelling! As always give this video a thumbs up, comment down below, and subscribe for more

I feel like this is a common misconception because usually in shows or books that have a character that's a "meanie" and they grow and mature, they always lose the snarky personality as if it was nothing I actually think that Bakugo has one of the best written character developments because they managed to make him grow and mature and understand his mistakes and flaws without taking away his whole personality to make him a people pleaser He has always been a bit obnoxious, since he was little, that personality came from his mom, and it's not changing, it's just who he is, that doesn't mean he can't grow to be a better person

I disagree. Bakugo was gifted and that remained the same throughout the series. It wasn’t ever a matter of “everyone having a strong quirk.” It was the fact that his main competition had a more broken, overpowered quirk than him. The majority of his classmates, even at the end of the series, still aren’t as strong, smart, or skilled as he is. The only times he really loses are when he’s up against Deku, when the entire League of Villains works together to kidnap him, overpowered Shigaraki, or when it comes to his views not lining up with reality. Just because there are others who are more gifted than him doesn’t mean that he’s burned out.

See, this is the reason why the Bakugou haters annoy the heck out of me when they say “he has no character development and hasn’t changed”. Bro went from being a superiority complex prideful jerk who bullied and looked down on Deku, into changing into a character who wants to atone for his passed mistakes by training deku’s other quirks, sacrificing himself for him and apologizing for everything he said and did to him and addressing him by his first name now, but some fans disregard his development and hate/ are stuck on who Bakugou was before in S1. Which just reminds me a lot of cancel culture. But what annoys me the most is when it feels like the author himself addressed what those people have been saying in chapter 327 and making a clear point, that while he still has his explosive personality, he’s certainly changed as a better person and hero…just for people to have all of that go over their heads because they can’t let go of S1 Bakugou. It’s like throwing an easy football pass to someone and they still somehow manage to have it go over their heads or fumble the ball. Which btw, I love how he still has his personality. One thing that annoys me in shows is when someone gets character development and there personality does a complete 180 and they’re a totally different character than before. I think the reason why people can’t see through his development is because they take his past actions personally. Granted I also took it personally and hated his character from the start, (which was what Horokoshi was aiming for) especially since I’ve been bullied before. But none of my bullies EVER reflected on their past actions, helped me study so they can atone for those actions, put themselves in harms way for my sake and dang sure never apologized for everything they did and said. Seeing all of this and other examples of his character development from Bakugou is exactly why he’s my 2nd favorite character in the series.

People don't quite understand that what makes certain individuals bad, was their beliefs, ego, and/or approach to their goals in the first place. A person's personality may be problematic in some areas, but that person's emotional perspective is a huge, if not, biggest part in what makes them reactively 'good' or 'bad.' Look at characters like Hikigaya Hachiman from Oregairu, who learnt to appreciate himself for what he is, and to stop his self-destructive attitude. Yet his own laid back analytic personality remains, but that doesn't mean his development wasn't there. Look at Vegeta from DBZ, who at the end of the Buu arc, moved past his own stubbornness of the regressive thinking that being a Saiyan Prince naturally implanted in him to be a more civil, better person. His prideful and competitive nature stop remains, but that doesn't deteriorate from his much he developed over the course of the story.

Bakugou has passion, but since no one disciplined him as a kid and it only got worse when he got older. That's how he got a shallow ego, and his parents aren't bad, but they dropped the ball. I love that bakugou grew up before it was too late. Because in most scenarios, people's pride and ego will always be the downfall of themselves and other people around including death. Not everyone is competition and out to get you, and Izuku has a heart of gold that's why people saw him as a worthy component. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be the best, but to stomp over people to get to the top. It's not best interest of character, He did change I'm glad it took longer for Kacchan to realize and reflect on his past actions and attitude towards people. Because people don't just change over night

Great video! I love how you actually understand him! One thing i would add is that due to the expectations of hero society for gifted people like him, the weight of the “golden child” stigma probably weighed on him a lot, making the prospect of a weak Deku being a good hero to so threatening, since bakugou essentially derived his self worth by how talented he was, so Deku proving him wrong at every turn was terrifying to him. But through his experiences at UA, he learned to judge himself and others by their character, not their abilities. Also, side note, but I love the dynamic between him and Todoroki, I feel like it’s severely underrated 😂

what I love about Bakugo as a character is how much potential he has had from the beginning. For many people, watching a good person turn into a villain is much more realistic than a "villain" character growing into a good person. People in the fandom don't believe that a character like Bakugo can change even though he is still in the process of growing. The way many in the fandom hate him is on a personal level which is their right as it is for those who have been bullied. But when we observe Bakugo as an audience we have the chance to see his character growth from the sidelines. We see him as a three-dimensional character. Those who have been bullied in real life only see the bully as a bully. I love Bakugos as a character and how his relationships and growth have been developed. I like his personality even though he is loud and abrasive but often it can mistaken to only be that. Considering how his mother acts, his caring can look different to others. Of course, his loud personality mixes with his inflated ego which makes him look extremely arrogant. I think he is neat and I really love the world of BHA

Plus, he's hilarious, him screaming always gets me laughing, even by just thinking about it. Like: "I'm always calm and rational, you red-haired loser!", how is that not funny? And: "Die, die, die!", again, hilarious! I just can't help, I have a type, and apparently, it's huge extroverts. Like Camilo from Encanto. And Monoma, Kaminari, Mina, Kirishima, what is there not to love? Their hilarious, and they have so funny facial expressions sometimes, especially Bakugou! Also, people think his personality is problematic... People think the same thing about me! I've pretty much always hated Deku, he's just so boring and a crybaby. Bakugou is actually interesting, and he's one-of-a-kind, I like myself one-of-a-kind characters! So, yes, I love Bakugou, and I'm proud! Feel free to hate on me if you so feel like it!

As an introvert, I have to say that Bakugou does show signs of introversion. Bakugo starts out an arrogant, self-entitled bully who doesn't think about anyone but himself. When he gets to UA, he is very quickly humbled and shown just how average he is when in a room with other talented people. His arc starts almost immediately but it's incredibly subtle. As he gets to know the other people in his class (and when Kirishima and Denki won't leave him alone), he thaws towards them. He gives them advice, pumps them up, becomes a wingman, and he helps the other classes to see him and his friends differently through banging on the drums, for heavens sake!! One of my favorite moments (I don't remember the exact episode) is when most of the class is standing outside their new dorms feeling down and upset, Bakugo grabs Denki, pulls him behind a bush, gets him to use his charge and turn into dumb Denki, and shoves him back in front of everyone so they get a good laugh and cheer up. Bakugo also pays back the money Kirishima used to buy night vision goggles when they went to reacue him. If you're paying attention to the little things, Bakugo's actions and body language, his change of heart is so obvious. Someone still having an explosive personality even if they're more mature doesn't mean they haven't gone through growth. It just means they still ended up being themselves after that growth was achieved. Bakugo is one of my favorite anime characters and i will die on this hill. I knew from the very first episode that his arc was going to be amazing and I wasn't disappointed!!

No, not being a wife beater and child abuser but more of Katsuki chilling out and being less rough around the edges, accepting his flaws as a part of himself that he has to live and work with. Because spoilers but Endeavor in the later chapters knew that deep down he could never be like All Might or Deku, and that he has to embrace his flaws because those flaws were also what kept him alive and move forward despite everything.

What makes him so interesting is he’s not like many anime characters. He has a very unique personality that in the show’s context, his personality wouldn’t be associated with a hero but a villain. I feel he changed over the course of the story but only at two really crucial moments (post-license exam fight and the dark deku situation). These were very critical but, the earlier moments, like after the battle trial and after the festival/internships, were more compromises (since he wasn't willing to address his real issue: his self-worth and view of deku), but these compromises were, to me, more important than the actual changes. He knows something is wrong and has to change, but he's afraid of what that means. It's just easier not to fully acknowledge it...until life won't let you ignore it. Remember: even after changing once, he still uttered that phrase: "I haven't changed." But you did, kacchan. Even if only a little bit.

People who don’t understand character growth usually do that - jump to the horrible thing a character did when they were introduced and just write them off as that horrible person for the whole story. It’s not about how a character starts, it’s about where they end. And the easiest way to develop a character is to have them start at a really bad place and then end at a much better one. Characters who are consistently good from beginning to end with little change are at risk of being quite boring.

I honestly love Bakugou. I think he is one of the best redemption arcs I've ever seen. Even long before he actually started to get redeemed, his friendship with Kirishima in season 2 onward really showed that in spite of his feral personality, Bakugou was a character with principles. I mean, in the first episode, he yells at his friends for even suggesting that they sneak into a bar and hit on ladies, as he scolds them for how such a reckless action could jeopardize their academic futures. Bakugou may run on bastard sauce, but it's AMBITIOUS bastard sauce. In spite of his rage problems, Bakugou has morals and standards. He never counts out Uraraka in their fight. He always comes at her the same he would when fighting a villain. It's literally why the crowd boos him. But Bakugou knows never to let his guard down. If Deku could surprise him, anyone could surprise him. And he won't be caught off-guard twice. Even if it's just respecting his opponent during the match, it's also one of the only times he ever addresses anyone other than Kirishima by their name. Because in this instance, he's treating her like someone he respects. And Bakugou could easily have made Kirishima study by himself or let him go join Yaoyorozu's study group. But Bakugou, who doesn't even seem very sociable, insists on tutoring Kirishima. It says a lot about how he views his friendship with Kirishima, and how he'll put in effort for people he respects. If you'd have told me in season 1 that Kacchan would be my favorite character, I'd have called you a liar. But he's so well-written. Honestly, I think he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Prince Zuko in terms of redemption arcs and anti-hero status.

When I first came across this show, Bakugo was easily my favorite. He is absolutely hilarious but extremely smart and insightful. Like that time, he told that one dude, "Your words don't match that look in your eyes." Except sometimes he didn't see that with Deku. It's clear to me that All Might is Deku's Hero, but so was Bakugo. Outside of that, I'm glad things are changing. Let Bakugo change, but he will have to keep his fire... that smart ass mouth and outbursts... much like his abilities. He's a great character.

Honestly I think sometimes it's hard to show steady, well written, character development because people are inherently stupid and simplification has to be reached to a point in order to make something popular. People don't like to think and if they don't get it, they won't like it. Bakugo is a great character in and of himself, but his oversimplification and glorification of his negative traits in the fanbase do a lot to make it hard to perceive him properly :/

@@toadlord8594 That's fair. I think where Endeavor's arc fails for me is that while it has more depth, the pacing and actions taken in the arc itself are what make it lackluster. While I would have liked more of that exploration with Bakugo, I think his arc makes up for it by having him spend the brunt of it atoning, while Endeavor spends the most of his reconsidering, which to me, is way less impactful.

@Oreansimun

I think that there are more of his character's development, like when he told All Might he also needs his quirk to be stronger, he already knows that he's not as strong as he is always talking, he is not an idiot, so that's mean that while his environment is always talking about how great he is, he knows that's going to collapse any moment, that's why he is such a defense when he thinks Izuku is always acting like better than him. When he is training in private with Deku, he said that Deku never thinks about himself first, and that's why he keeps his distance from him, he just can't understand it. His mother is great and everything but I don't think she is the only reason to make him think that he is too weak that he got kidnapped, as you said, they have the same personality, so maybe he just has that idea as the same time as his mother, and his mother, the only one who he meets that talk about it just doesn't help at all. And, you know, maybe he feels the guilt that the one he loves so much all his life just lost everything, and society seem to be harsh at that time, and everything just go worse a lot after that, and he just fail a test made him doubt his worth to be saved and risk all of that, well... there were a lot of things. And you said that part he told Izuku to jump from the building, just be sure that you said the whole sentence because it's so annoying how people cut the words from the sentence for their benefit and out of the situation.

It really started after he lost the first training exercise. His personality sucks but that’s just how he is. People expose themselves tbh. They say “we needa see consequences”, but for some reason go blind when those consequences come about; Bakugo losing the first battle training, people disagreeing with his ideals and making fun of him, getting kidnapped, failing the provisional license exam. Narrative bashing is not a consequence that will inspire growth for a written character, at least not one that’s compelling. We continuously see Bakugo react and reflect on these events that shake his ideology, and he eventually learns to work together, teach young kids to not be egotistical and accept Deku and everyone’s strength.

My problem with Bakugou ironically isn't with how he acts or what he does, its how everyone around him, Deku especially reacts to it. He acts horrible and does/shows really despicable tendencies but everyone acts as if it's not a big deal and excuses what he does and act like he is a true hero in the making. If people (Deku & his class) actually hated him instead, and treating him like a villain ready to happen then I honestly wouldn't have any issues with his personality. The thing is you need to have a balance, if you have a character who is an asshole. Take Vegeta for example, he did horrible things and acts arrogant and selfish but is also constantly getting beaten, humbled, and humiliated by a lot of the villains. Or Endeavour he literally acts like Bakugou but the difference is that nobody excuses him or his actions, he's treated like a monster and everyone close to him (his family) hates him.
@MariCanta

"Take Vegeta for example, he did horrible things and acts arrogant and selfish but is also constantly getting beaten, humbled, and humiliated by a lot of the villains." - Bakugo was humbled once the sludge villain attacked him and Deku saved him (He then didn't bully Deku ever again) - Bakugo was humbled in the first Deku vs Kakchan arc. - Bakugo has been kidnapped and was blaming himself for ending AM - Bakugo then as one of two people in his class didn't pass the provisional license exam The list goes on in the manga.. His class didn't have to humiliate him. Once he joined the UA, he realized that he was not the best. That there are people who are better than him, and that he needs to work hard to achieve his goals. When it comes to his boom-boom-boi personality, he is what he is. Some people are quiet all the time, and some of them scream all the time. He screams a lot, and that's who he is - a classic tsundere. But as it was stated at the beginning of this video, his superiority complex and huge ego made him abusive at the beginning. But when it comes to a hot-tempered personality - that's the way he is. And his friends accept that. They call him out if his activities are out of the line though. and I think that's fine. He has grown as a character, and became one of my favorites. Why should I hate him if he understood his faults and accepted everything? If he's now trying to do the right thing?

What I have observed is that in the middle school Bakugo has never been called out for his behavior. Someone said that "maybe he went a little to far" in a submissive manner and that's it. When he arrived at UA, he was in fact called out and yelled at by his classmates whenever he went overboard, because no one was scared of him. They even made fun of him too. And in normal situations he was treated with love and acceptance (take Kirishima, who is the best example of a good friend - supportive, but calls out Bakugo too). Classmates treat Bakugo as an equal, as it should be. Imagine, if he was bullied instead, this would only reinforce his aggressive behavior as a form of defense. Instead, we've got people, who tread a bully as equal, they call him out and address his wrong behavior. But they accept his short-tempered personality. Which, in my opinion, is a mature behavior in this case.

Here’s the thing though I think bakugo’s character development is none existing is not because he changes one chapter and goes back to being fouled mouthed the next no it’s because seeing the bigger picture he did show any signs of being regretful for his actions or any of the psychological evidence of him trying to change cus the writer never gave a reason or a catalyst for bakugo’s change like being punished for his actions let’s have an example shall we? In the anime “a silent voice” the main character aka the bully started bully people when he was in the age range of bakugo he starts as a piece of shit like bakugo but the end result is drastically different with him ending up being an extremely relatable and lovable character that people can synthesize with you know why? Because unlike bakugo he got punished in the form of his friends turning on him the character actually looked at his actual and felt so much guilt that he tried offing himself his personality was effected his actions were effected and he had beautiful character development Now we go back to bakugo he was a piece of shit when he was a kid he did not receive any form of punishment for what he did none of his past action is taken into consideration when his “character develepment” happens and he is the same piece of shit he started as Now do you see why his “character development” is shallow at best nonexistent at worst? Cus looking outside the box of mha you realize that the writer is not good at his job therefore the character is not good

"I'm not saying he was abused or anything like that." Proceeds to immediately show and describe abuse.💀 The first and basically only thing that she has done on screen is physically or emotionally abuse Bakugo. Even if Bakugo can clearly take the attacks, it's still very much abuse and horrible. And her reaction to him being kidnapped was "Oh. You're so weak. It's your fault. Why'd you have to cause so much trouble for everyone you little shit." Like HELLO??? This is clearly abuse. I don't understand how some people think that he isn't being abused. Sure, some people think that it's more severe than others, but I don't think that there is a sane way to pass this off as something other than abuse. And what we've seen is all in front of his teachers and the LITERAL NUMBER ONE HERO. If she openly abuses him in front of them, then what is she like behind closed doors? He also displays clear signs of abuse in the way he acts. He's literally the "trouble maker" type of abused child. Also why does nobody talk about the sports festival?? He was literally chained up because he didn't want to accept a medal. Just, I don't know, let him say no?? He should have the right to say no. NO MEANS NO! Also, it's very likely that he was being reminded of the sludge villain attack while in the restraints (which looked a whole lot like the ones that THE LEGUE OF VILLAINS used while kidnapping him), and he was probably having a panic attack on LIVE NATIONAL TELEVISON. A TEENAGER was restrained in villain grade restraints for trying to use his right to say no which likely caused him to have a panic attack and all of this was broadcast live on national television. Am I missing anything? Oh yeah! He was also literally GASED for grabbing Todoroki's collar. He wasn't even attacking him! I really don't blame him for being so aggressive! (I don't mean that he was justified in bullying Deku, obviously.) I hate when people undermine what he's been through and then label him as just aggressive or mean. Like, obviously he is, but there's way more to him than that, and he isn't just aggressive and mean. It's his defense mechanism because all he's ever known is fighting because of how he's being raised CURRENTLY and all of the other stuff he's additionally been through outside of being abused at home. And he it's not like he's never calm or genuinely thoughtful. Though his words are usually harsh and sometimes his actions (mostly in the beginning of the series), his actions usually show how much he cares about people. Like stated in the video, his actions speak louder than his words. And I think a large reason for this is because of the abuse that he's been through. He doesn't feel like he can ever let his guard down, let alone to talk about his feelings. I'm going to stop ranting now because I can go on about this for a while. I agreed with a lot of the points in this video, though obviously not some of them. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk, lol.

So, I really like this video, and I want you to acknowledge how this video was published prior to the ending of mha, but I feel like some was left unaddressed about bakugos and dekus characters throughout the series. Consequences. Actual consequences. Yes, Bakugo feels bad, realised his wrong doings and I cant deny how satisfying it was to see him change, but he never faced consequences. He wasn’t confronted by his past to an extent that would punish him for his behaviour or his actions and it makes me upset. Deku forgives him, but that cant be it, right? It just cant be that deku forgives him just like that. I mean, he was bullied for years!! A sorry doesn’t feel like enough. So, basically, what I want to say is that the execution of Bakugos change never really reached a climax for me. He didn’t get punished by society, by his teachers, by deku nor even his idol! Sure, society called him a hero who appears more like a villain than a hero, so he faced consequences somewhere by not being trusted by the mass, but that didn’t get enough focus. The teachers knew of Bakugos personality and his tendencies to insult everyone, especially deku during the first few seasons. He never seemed to face consequences. Like ever! Deku never really punished Bakugo neither (by punishing I mean making him face consequences for destroying dekus ego what feels like beyond repair). An apology shouldn’t be enough! Deku should be mad! He should tell Bakugo that forgiveness wouldn’t cut it, but I also know that Deku aint like that and that he suffers from his own mental issues, especially from deeming himself worthless or worth less than anyone else who could possibly need saving. Despite that, I also respect how, as mentioned in the video, Bakugo reflects throughout the series. He doesn’t just change 180 to make deku look better, he doesnt change within one arc and suddenly he’s a better person, but instead its all handled slowly as a kind of subplot that affects bakugos relationship with everyone around him. I just want to say that Bakugo is one of my favourite characters (too, much like the fandoms lol) and that this is not coming from a place of hate but more so disappointment. I want to see Bakugo reflect first hand, I want to see him regret his actions, face consequences and grow as a character. I want to see him struggle with making up for his bullying and try to change (which he does. He does change. but I mean a kind of change he aspires to focus on and become a person he can be proud of without searching for validation outside or even himself.) If you don’t agree, lets talk about it in the comments :) And if u do, then lets talk about that too, maybe I missed something.

My main issue is that Bakugo is still a massive jerk. He still flings out insults at any moment and he still has the temperament of a deranged mental patient. Oh yeah, and his “apology” was done so quietly and vaguely that he never actually ADMITTED to what he had done to Deku. I could respect Bakugo’s Redemption if it involved loudly admitting to everyone what he had done to Deku in the past. If he had detailed his assholery and sincerely apologized for it. Instead, it was just Bakugo keeping it vague so as to not be judged. What a surprise that his ego yet again comes before honesty and sincerity.

I suggest finishing the series. I do believe that his character development wasn’t bad. Especially because it took many many arcs to get him there, but what lacked are consequences. He never faced consequences and thats whats holding him back from being a great character, able to change. Maybe its because of my personal expiriences too that I want Bakugo to change so much, because I believe that people can change! But it feels like mha never really got to the climax of him actually regretting and starting a redemption arc.

Bakugo is badly written, his character development wasn't good at all, he never suffered consequences of the way he acts towards people INCLUDING deku, and he got off to easy with the stuff that he did which makes his character not a good one Bakugo had the best life in mha that anyone would want but he turned into a bully and an egotistic person.

Bakugou maybe a great character but he sucks as a hero. Im judging bakugou as a HERO and i realize how pathetic he is. Keep in mind that Heroes of MHA are judge by their accomplishment (ie beating villains & saving lives) not by how strong they are. I compared deku and bakugou heroic accomplishment and i find that bakugou could not surpass deku. In the manga, deku officially fought and won against stain, mascular, overhaul, gentle, lady nagant, villains of the dark hero arc and shirigaki/afo. He also saves kota, eri and several dozen heroes. Compare that to bakugou who only beats two villains and saves four people. The only reason bakugou looks better than deku is because deku accomplishment is not made public. If deku accomplishment is known, he easily be praise as the next almight. A prime example is the hosu arc, if its not cover up and made public. It would made deku, shoto and iada famous and easily overshadows bakugou winning the UA sports festival.
