I was watching an video about how minus world glitches in Mario Bros were caused by change in hexadecimal values. Now I can fully understand why they meant. Thanks Gary

Thanks a lot for that refresher Gary!! next time please do a tutorial on binary bit manipulation as this is a popular topic on technical interviews.

I'm getting 271 for 0xFE when I do the math[(16×16¹)+(15×16⁰)], what am I doing wrong?
interesting never really thought about anything past binary codes. hey Garry, can we have more speed test G comparisons with more midrangers since in our markets, no one really buys flagships. take the best selling midrangers and budget devices once in a while, like the redmi note 7 pro vs real me 3 pro, the real me 3 vs redmi note 7, Samsung A20, vs A30 vs A50 vs huawei and honor devices vs nokia etc. as we've seen flagships mostly have the snapdragon 855 and perform generally the same, it would be interesting to see this budget phones that pack snapdragons, exnos, mediatek and kirin processors with different nodes and different ARM designs generatons with different GPUs to boot. please please do this for us!

What I'm missing in this explanation is the bits representation, showing the individual bits. Seeing why a byte is FF would have been really useful as part of the explanation I think. Also you mentioned CSS and called it: Style Script, but it's called: (Cascading) Style Sheet.

Why did they choose to add 6 symbols after the 10 numbers? Why not more than 6 if it makes bigger numbers take up less space?
@divingradish5 жыл бұрын
1 hex digit is representing 4 bits of binary number. It is take up less space to write in the context of computer world. I believe it is common for people to work with half of a byte (low bits/high bits) in computer world, so it is kinda practical.

I have to use this at work sometimes for addressing. Nice explanation but I'm sure it's over many peoples heads. I don't use it often so when I do I have to stop and think about it.

Now that we are moving to 10,10,10 bit color depth this will start to make less sense to use hex in HTML. It's really only tidy to use hex on multiples of 4 bits. Just like it was only tidy to use octal on DEC machines that has word sizes like 18bits.
@GaryExplains5 жыл бұрын
Even at 10 bits it is still better to use hex than decimal. 12 bits is 3 hex digits, so moving to that would work for 10 bit and provide future proofing.

Why does 0x0 thing looks somewhat similar to assembly language. I might be wrong tho.
@vladutcornel5 жыл бұрын
An Assembly language is just a form of textual representation of machine code, which is binary (1 and 0). Converting from base 2 to base 16 and back is very easy (See Michael's table above). Operators are tipicaly replaced by keywords (That's why you see something like "ADD 69 9F", not "A6 69 9F" - I don't actually know the x86 instructions).
