On October 31, 2024, NYU ISI was joined by Dr. Afsaneh Tavassoli (Alzahra University), Dr. Taghi Azadarmaki (University of Tehran), and Dr. Abbas Varij Kazemi (Institute for Cultural & Social Studies) for an insightful discussion on social and cultural dynamics in contemporary Iran.
Understanding Iran entails careful consideration of social and cultural intricacies in everyday life across the country. In this panel discussion, three accomplished social scientists based in Iran will present their perspectives on the multiplicity of everyday practices under the Islamic Republic. They will explore social and cultural changes in gender relations, religiosity, and the elusive character of the "everydayness." Together, they will reflect on the social and cultural elements that constitute life as ordinary reality in Iran today. This event will be entirely in Persian.
