Snapping into a "Harley Quinn" type personality is a defense mechanism. It's absolutely believable that someone with that level of emotional damage, dependency, and psychosis would invent a 'fun-crazy' devil may care persona to hide behind. It's really the perfect way to have a more developed character and still have moments where the personality players are familiar with comes through.

After Jinx shoots Silco, she's shown clearly in that triggered mindless instinctual state like in episode 4 on the ship. Then after a couple breaths you see the exact moment her brain kicks in to full awareness again and... instant regret. Jinx didn't chose to kill Silco, but in a triggered state she instinctually shot at the threat of the sound of the pin drop in Silco's gun. That's entirely the reason she then chooses the Jinx chair, yet again, she was a Jinx to her family. It's just tragedy. It wasn't a choice, she admitted to being Jinx when she accidentally killed Silco. You can discover this by making a detailed analysis.

I see some parallels to cops who instinctively shoot a suspect when he draws a gun, only to shoot to kill when they just mean to wound them. Jinx wanted to save Vi, but Silco's death was not what she wanted.

I heard it beautifully put in another video about Jinx. Powder killed her father to save her sister, and Jinx killed Powder to avenge her father. And this is, in my opinion at least, the best interpretation of that scene.

Story in the background, but does little to inform the actual gameplay other than the character skillsets, abilities, powers and the items. Everything else is pure game, no story. Imagine the Injustice games but with no story mode. You can play as your favourite characters but if you want to learn more about their backstory, you're gonna have to go out of your way to search for it because the game won't give it to you other than a single paragraph summarizing the character's history and a bunch of voicelines. That's it

@@Satsuionly I get it and sympathize, but the fictional character that we’re talking about is the captain of her own ship and had plenty of people looking after her in adolescence and adulthood. She willingly and knowingly committed murder, grand larceny, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and plenty of other punishable crimes. Had her parents not ran into a choke point on a bridge against an armed cadre of enforcers perhaps they could’ve went Victors route and attempt to better their lives in order get Powder the help that she so desperately needs and perhaps even have her attend education that can help hone her engineering prowess for the betterment of society and mankind rather than use that powerful knowledge for murder and mayhem etc. Vi didn’t abandon her, her parents did, and Milos harsh criticism was perhaps unnecessary but ultimately correct….

I would say she’s a victim of circumstances. She is trapped in a vicious cycle of horror and tragedy since she lost her parents , not helped by forces beyond her control (I mean, her being very young, the civil war happened even before her transformation in Jinx; and she couldn’t have known that they were about to save themselves when she tried to intervene). Even when she tries to do something good, somehow it backfires big time. And when you have a bully on your side for years who just won’t stop to badmouth people, and the only member of your family saying horrible things that they would regret in a fit of rage, of course you’d get some issues to work with.

It’s not love, she had love but what she needed was acceptance. She didn’t just want to be just loved, she wanted someone to accept her for who she is, flaws and all. Vi and Ekko try to look for the powder they knew but that little girl is gone, they couldn’t accept that Jinx was the real her. That’s why she clung to Silco so much, Silco was the only one who could accept Jinx for who she was. He didn’t just believe that there was good in her, he believed that she was perfect just the way she was.

Jinx is the type of character that feels she can never be redeemed. Instead she gets to a point in her mental state, where hatred and anger is welcomed. Which in turn make her happy in the moment but in the long run only produces great mental suffering. Her character is really sad but makes one hell of a villain. I think because she is relatable for some, in a since of feeling out casted but still wanting to shxt all over anyone that ever doubted her.

Which I would say is very much like Jinx. She will kill anyone, that includes Friends, Family, and the Enforcers to see Silco's plans fulfilled. Is that not evil, is that not a villain?

@@Sith-LordTobi To be fair, considering everyone in season one kinda gives up on her in the end or dies. It's a bit difficult to say that she really goes after friends or family. I'd only consider them ex friends and ex family. It's said before that Ekko helped people who got under Silco's thumb. During the fight on the bridge you can see the bitterness and hear it in Jinx her voice. Ekko never came for her. Vi is horrified by who she is, she'd always have to live a lie. And when the lie shattered and she killed the only person on her side and destroyed the counsil, Vi also left. Because Vi has morals and Jinx her outburst of grieve and pain that caused so much destruction is not something she can accept. Silco is death too so who is going to tell her to reign it in? No one. Because no one matters enough to stop for. She's angry, she's hurt and in the world of Zaun and Piltover the only way Jinx can eleviate the pain of everything for just a moment is chaos, murder and more. It's the only thing she learned to enjoy. The mess ups, the shows, the dramatics and theatrics make her feel a sense of being alive that nothing else can give her. She has no personal deep relationships by the end of season one because she changed and everyone else did too. Think of it as the thought 'you betrayed me first, so deal with the consequences. I don't have the liberty to care if I want to live.'

She is such a catastrophic victim of circumstance it was painful watching her go through every step of her degradation. A child who is so clumsy her friend's and sister have to begrudgingly invite her along and she knows that. A perfect disaster where death lies on either side one of which was her latent ingenuity. The one person who was supposed to understand and love her the most struck and cast her aside at the moment of her greatest failure and anguish. This show did a fantastic job of showing that some damage cannot be fixed no matter how much we may wish it. She is so broken and now with Silco gone there is no one left who understands her as she is now.

I’ve rewatched the last episode are arcane so many times and watched soooo many videos on KZbin about Arcane. … After all that I don’t think Jinx shot Silco to save Vi. I think she heard the safety of the gun go off and her first instinct was to shoot at the person holding the gun. Makes me wonder if Vi was the one with the gun would Jinx have shot her?? Jinx is such a complex character. I love it, and I love Sage Rain!

Exactly. And, yes, Jinx would have shot Vi (she already did when she hallucinated that one of the skateboarding thieves was Vi and flat out shot her when a threat was perceived). Powder turned into Jinx the moment she realized Silco couldn't come back, exactly like what Powder did with the bomb at the beginning. Jinx isn't a coping mechanism. Jinx is the shell that's left over when Powder is destroyed. You can watch it happen as she cries over Silco, then her face flattens and the emotions are gone (it's called a "flat aspect" and we use it in the medical field). The chaotic rampages of Jinx are all she has now and she no longer fights it. Incredibly sad watching someone's psyche be so utterly demolished.

Alsoo she makes EXPLOSIVES A thing that is very powwrful but can also literaly hurt you if you hold onto it for long,whereas other types of weapons are more aim related and not time sensitive. So her tool of choice is also incorporated into her theme. Shes volatile,a danger to both herself and to others. (We need Fiddlestixks in Season 2)

I was worried at first when you said Jinx killed Vander, but later you said Silco killed him. Thus you show that while Jinx carries the guilt, Silco carries the responsibility. Glad you pointed out Silco's manipulation (despite his love) and Vi's guilt and thus inability to say Jinx's new name. To her it will always be a reminder of the one time she failed as a sister, as the trauma from Silco's actions in ep 3 was too much to process. I do wish you would have pointed out how Silco knowingly lied to Jinx, as he keeps hammering to Jinx that 'Vi left her', but when he is with Vi he smugly mocks her for 'driving her sister away'. The pleasure he takes in that is just revolting to me.

Man I am feeling so bad for Jinx, I have watched arcane videos last whole day long and just thinking of the fact that Jinx just wanted to be loved and appreciated the way she wanted to but kind of got both of those things but the way she got them didn't heal her up but made her more and more broken to the point that she started to question her own judgement and it just got worse and worse for her, its just so sad and I have been brought to the brink of crying by just watching this and cannot evenly comprehend what she herself is going through, I just want to see her be happy and to find someone that truly understands her and what she needs and somehow just accept what she did and stop feeling guilty as all of it was just an accident that occurred when she was just a child I just want her to be happy

I think framing a lot of what Silco did as manipulation, isn't dangerous, but that it misses the horrors of what actually happened and I'm gonna explain that more below. I do however wanna put a TRIGGER WARNING because I'll be talking about, mentioning, and comparing it to real life physical abuse and cycles of abuse. and while this'll be specifically related to physical abuse, it is analogous to other types of abuse such as sexual assault (SA), mental/emotional abuse, and all other types of abuse and manipulation. so even if I'm not going super in-depth with this topic, I still wanna apply a TW for those who are sensitive to the topic take a parent who hits their kids, not a beating but a spanking, that's normalized in our society, it's not seen as bad or as abuse in a lot of circles, but according to research and data, any type of physical confrontation with a child can be extremely damaging to their mental, emotional, and even physical wellbeing. so why do we still tolerate it at all, I think the reason is because it's normalized to the individual carrying out the action, their parents did it to them, and their grandparents probably did it to their parents, and what they did was probably a lot worse and more severe, probably closer to child abuse today than a spanking by a lot. but when given this info, people still tend to not change their behavior, and I don't think it's because they're abusive or they wanna continue doing abuse despite the evidence but because facing the fact that what they're doing to their child is damaging them doesn't just mean addressing their own actions and teachings, but the actions and teachings of their parents, and their grandparents, and so much more of their family and friends. it's restructuring how they view their family and the world they live in. and I think that's a much more common form of abuse, where the abuser doesn't realize that they are hurting that person or they were taught to believe the benefits of it outweigh the negatives. we think of manipulation as deliberate and targeted but not as a cognitive bias we haven't questioned and therefore follow, and yet the end result is the same, using fear and pain to get the desired results you want with a disregard for the health of the individual in question. and this isn't just limited to "physical discipline" but it's true in victim blaming in cases of SA, in gang violence, in mental and emotional abuse and so much more. I don't think that it can't be called manipulation or that it's wrong to do so, but that we need to expand our definition and understanding of it to address it more beneficially. I think that's the true horror of what Silco did, the horror is how common it is in our world and how little we address within society and within ourselves

Been waiting a long time for a video from you on Jinx and overall Id say you did her real justice. When I first watched Arcane the whole Powder/Jinx dynamic reminded me heavily of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. Like Anakin, Powder created Jinx as a way to deal with her grief, guilt, and trauma and like Anakin, tries to view Jinx and Powder as two seperate enities, even though there are several instances where she shifts between her two selves. Only thing I somewhat disagree with is Powder/Jinx's choice at the end of the season. While I do agree that Powder and Jinx will always coexist and are one in the same I dont think she came to the same conclusion, or at least accepted that conclusion, and chose a third option. Seems to me like she decided to fully embrace Jinx and cast off Powder. That doesnt mean I think Powder is dead rather locked away somewhere far out of reach to most. I could be proven completely wrong if and when season 2 arrives but my prediction will be that Jinx will do everything to "kill" or bury all traces of Powder only to be constantly reminded of who she use to be at nearly every turn. To me while season 1 was about the birth of Jinx and "death" of Powder season 2 will be about a "revival" of Powder as it were. Aside from that pretty good video. Its always nice to find new vidoes about Arcane and Jinx in particular but hearing one with your viewpoints is refreshing to say the least.

Do you think you could do a morality analysis of my favorite Jujutsu Kaisen character, Megumi Fushiguro? He's such a relatable character, trying to balance his outlook on bad/good people and he carries such an emotional burden of being a Jujutsu sorcerer trying to reawaken his sister. I also love his bromance with Yuji. Even though he acts annoyed by Yuji's knucklehead antics, Fushiguro is still willing to do anything for his only friend.

My view on this end scene is that Jinx is accepting what she is. For so long she'd been defined by other people, being what they wanted so that he could gain validation, but in the end she failed time and time again. She killed her old family, she killed her new adopted father, she destroys whatever she touches. Jinx kills Powder, because if she'd going to be a monster, if can't be anything other than Jinx... then she should be proud of it. She can't chose who she is, but she can accept who she is. That's the reason why, even though she just lost the only person who ever truly accepted her as she was, she was calm and decisive. Maybe it was out of resignation, but her mind was clear now. The voices and visions were gone because she wasn't conflicted anymore. It was out of despair and hatred, but through that Jinx was truly born. So, she decided to aim her hatred where she thought it was deserved. Maybe she couldn't stop herself from destroying, but she would choose where that ruin was aimed. At piltover, the people who were the basis for everything that went wrong in her life.

Hi sage's rain I love your character analysis and all your videos and I especially loved the video that you made about Naruto's female characters and how the writer failed them and as a big Naruto and anime fan in general I have mixed feelings with the female characters and their representation in anime because most of the female characters in anime are poorly written, fan service, simping and motivation around boys, overpower them and being a love interest and there are just few female characters who are well written. So I have a request, can you please make a video about the female characters in animes and also the representation of female characters in different type of animes that you have seen and which are popular like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu kaisen, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Full Metal Alchemist and more. Also can you talk about what makes a female character or a character itself strong because most of the time when anyone talks about a female character being strong alot of them think about physically strong but sometimes I feel like being physically strong is good but when a character is not strong by their personality it's just make them boring and somewhat unrelatable, it doesn't make them compelling characters and in the end they come into the category of a Mary Sue characters and just only exist in the story to be strong by physically not by personality and in action animes they just exist in this particular series without having any strong motive to even be in the series or even fight and often it makes them in my opinion boring and unlikeable that there is nothing to tell about them in the story. If you like my idea can you please make a video about this topic and also can you mention those female characters who are well written that deserve a lot attention and also can you tell what is your favourite female characters in anime.
