The "RUSH" is very real when you win. The disappointment is heartbreaking when you lose. Once you have your first huge "Hit"; like an addict, you want it again. Another problem is when you have the over whelming feeling you are about to hit the jackpot and choose to continue pressing the button until their are no credits. Play only what you can lost without guilt. Prepay your bills and leave after you win from your bonus. As a matter of fact the casinos' only give you pennies to come back compared to what you drop in the slots and tables. Go with someone who doesn't play to sit with you and get you out of there.

@OZRIC198510 жыл бұрын
I totally sympathize with Joy. Gambling addiction is by far the most devastating addiction. I know exactly what it is like to feel like I have to go back to the casino over and over again to attempt to get back even some of the vast amounts of money I have lost. I have not gone as far as Joy has (i.e. embezzling), but I have sold many treasured belongings to get the money to gamble and try to win money just to live on. I have not been able to get a job anywhere for a few years now, and gambling has been my only hope to try to make money to pay bills (and that's not including my mortgage payment which I have not been able to pay for years...my house has been in foreclosure for a long time). Casinos are evil demonic places that prey on people and drain their bank accounts of every last dime. They are ruthless and have no conscious whatsoever as they devastate thousands of peoples' lives.

Netgear Won't Work I don't agree. There are business men, and various professionals who have gambling problems. Addiction has nothing to do with I.Q. It's being drawn in in spite of your education and I.Q. that's what makes it so perplexing. You would think these people would "know better" and they do, but there is no self control, so then it becomes a moral issue...
@atlasshrugged2u9 жыл бұрын
***** LOL! I was thinking the same thing...
@OZRIC19859 жыл бұрын
Netgear Won't Work Exactly! People of all walks of life, rich or poor, educated or less educated, high IQ or low IQ, can get addicted to gambling for a variety of reasons. There are people on welfare who will gamble away their welfare checks on lottery tickets or other forms of gambling in the desperate hopes that they can get themselves out of the financial hole they are in (even though it is a longshot). Then, there are well-to-do people who gamble either to get the high from it or to try to recover big gambling losses they have had in the past. In these difficult financial times, many people (including myself) gamble to attempt to make some money just to pay their most crucial bills. Sometimes it works, but sometimes things can go very wrong and they can (and will) have further losses. During times of long-term unemployment gambling can be the only hope (and yes, most of the time a false hope) to make any money at all without resorting to committing crimes to get money. All in all, the gambling industry is evil and can (and does) cause financial devastation to many many people. :(

I stupidly gambled once. Bet a dollar, won a dollar. That was then end of my gambling career. Quit while ahead. What I don’t understand about gamblers is that the math is so simple. The more you play the more you lose, and house always wins. That’s why the ‘houses’ continue to exist. Why would anyone choose to gamble their life away? Why not learn to play bass? Or oil paint? Or Tai Chi? Surely ANYTHING is more fun than losing everything you have. Isn’t it?

I have spent hours on end in front of slot machines that you actually get to realize how the slot machines suck you in get you to blow all your money, unless you hit a jackpot, and that is everybody's goal. For instance, you put $100 in the machine and start with that, and little by little it just disappears. It usually goes like this: you lose your first 4 spins, and then hit a fairly good one. Then you get that feeling you won and end up losing a little more than you started with (a little under $100). So, the cycle keeps repeating itself until you show 0.00 left.

It's very sad that decision makers who even allowed such places to be legalized in the first place do not seem to comprehend the harm it inflicts on society.. you've been there n seen it urself.. no casino can ever make money with casual and small once off gamblers.. their modus operandi (made worse by membership cards, freebies and being opened 24 hrs, permitting smoking etc) is clearly clearly designed to make ppl addicted.. u r lucky to have run away in time.. thousands of ppl get trapped every year with countless suicides and lives destroyed.. sadly it is still sanctioned by the state... Some countries claim to have sanitized it with charging entry levies (utter BS.. ) and having self exclusion (again utter BS for potential addicts) ... the measures in place are simply for image sanitization .. why not just open an opium den and have similar control measures like charging entry fees and allowing self exclusion.. utter BS... the casinos high overheads mean they depend on high losses from patrons and turning a casual gambler into an addict.. the whole environment in it has been designed with that explicit aim. Shame and shame on the politicians who resort to legalizing it for quick bucks.. very dirty money ..

And i lose more money than i ever won in my entire gambaling life for 15 year. I wish i could turn back the clock and stop myself from gambaling in the first place and just tell myself to work hard and save money for the things i want in life instead of trying to get lucky and playing the worst odds in gambaling.Life is too short to be gambaling your life away.

I read somewhere that psychologists believe that 'problem gamblers' actually want to lose, to punish themselves in some way. They also reckon there is such a thing as a genetic predisposition to become a problem gambler, passed down through families. If that is correct then I could understand getting addicted to losing, otherwise it makes no sense.

A message to Joy: you can't change your past so forget and forgive yourself and just decide today is the beginning of the good parts of your life. You are serving time and that is how you are being punished for your crime so okay, that is being done, years will go by and then you will be free again to start over. You have a disease and need to forgive yourself and start fresh. Someone once told me , "God doesn't make junk!" You are not junk. You screwed up and will have some financial things you can't do when you leave like own a house or a car etc but you can still see and love your children. You have to stop beating yourself up or wishing to die. God may have set you out as an example to many people you will never meet but who watched this show and vowed to stop before stealing etc. You also need to remember as much as being in jail sucks, you are still living in America and not Rwanda or somewhere where men come in your hut and cut off your arms because you're part of a different tribe etc! You have family that loves you, you will probably always have food to eat, and a roof when it rains, and access to some sort of healthcare if you get very ill. My point is as horrible as life seems now you could still try to see God can forgive you and that you can still find small joys in every day of your life especially when you leave jail. You don't need a dumb casino to make you happy, your children love you and that's all you need to be happy and you screwed up but you were still a good mother because you obviously have raised wonderful children. I hope you can just say the past is done with and just be happy to be breathing and healthy and have those kids and to live in America. You don't need to compare your life to others when you get out of jail or to compare it to how it used to be before this mess, you just need to look for those small happy days with your kids and let the rest fall into place. No one else will realize what your addiction did to you and that doesn't matter either, you know the truth of it, how the government wants the casinos to make their money, how the casinos design slots to purposely addict people , for example interesting tidbit : they make their carpets in a casino so sick to look at that they make you dizzy so you only look up at the slots and table games and cant look down without getting sick , they spend hours and hours figuring how to get to the brain of these addicts in order to get them not to leave etc , and that is not saying you don't have responsibility for your actions because obviously you still made those bad choices that hurt some people but you are serving your punishment, you will have consequences forever from it but that does not mean you cannot be happy again. Hug those kids of yours and smile again! God loves you no matter what you've done in your past! God bless you and I wish you the best!
@s.p.82747 жыл бұрын
To add to that two other things : first ..,for the nice man who tried to give you another shot and instead became another victim of this horrible addiction, have you thought of writing a book and giving the proceeds of that to him? If you can't get it published then another idea is to start a gofundme page and explain how he was wonderful enough to give you that chance but he has lost thousands now and maybe people could donate to him seeing how he must be a great guy to have believed in second chances for people ....and second, I hope you can or have stopped smoking because that IS an addiction you can stop on your own with patches or gum or e-cigarettes etc. My daughter works with lung transplant patients and she has told me dying from lung cancer is Not an easy way to die! If you could see your organs it would scare you because they all are turning black, yuk. So do that for yourself while you are in jail maybe and you will feel a sense of stopping not one but two addictions while you are away. Again, I wish you the best!

Gamblers like to blame others for their problems. When they win nothing can bring them down. But when they lose that anger comes out and its targeted at those closest to them. It is a psychological nightmare living with one. I was accused of stealing, of bringing bad luck and everything else in between. Then the gambler turned violent, big mistake for him. Fast fingers on the roulette machine does not translate to punching power. He got knocked down and then got a good kicking to the body. An elbow drop to the head probably would have made his existence better. Today, I have the lowest tolerance to gamblers. The best thing to do is to leave the gambler behind immediately. If they accuse you of anything leave. Even if a partner or close relation cut loses and don't allow their pained existence to affect yours. Your peace of mind is worth more then the gambler's life.

Vanessa Theroux good point but the thing is there is really no such thing as responsible gambling. you may spend $1,000 at a casino and win only $10 assuming you win anything. and even if you do win big, by then most likely, you will be so far in debt from unpaid bills that you won't be able to enjoy your money. these machines are rigged so you have a fraction of a percent to win. atleast if you drink alcohol responsibly, you don't stand to lose anything. but there is no responsible gambling, because you always lose.

Good point, Shaun ... I tend to agree. Responsible gambling is like saying Responsible Cocaine addiction. It's an illogical statement and self-contradictory.
@laloeastside96697 жыл бұрын
And to add to your point Shaun, which is very good btw, is that when casinos implement over 350-500 slot machines, they aren't there for decoration, and they don't expect you to "responsibly" gamble $20 to $100 per trip. If everyone who went to casinos had a stop loss of $100 or so, they would be out of business, guaranteed. They thrive and prey on weak people to gamble thousands of dollars til they're flat broke. Sucker bettors, like candy to a baby. The whole story about casinos put out literature and flyers, there's numbers everywhere in the casino to help problem gamblers... Bullshit!!! These hyenas implement credit lines inside casinos. ATM Machines at every corner. The casinos are lavishly decorated, sounds blaring, "You could be next" posters, comped meals and rooms. They are full of shit. Slot players have player cards, so these casinos have access to their losses. But do you think they look at their loss statements, and say "Looks like you've lost over $50,000 with us, we're gonna ask that you stay away for a while, you need to be more responsible". Hell no. They send flyers and offers for free rooms and meals to entice people to come back and lose another $50,000. To hell with them. That's why I card count, and rob their asses blind... They can kiss my ass.

After reading most the comments below i see some that really understand gambling addiction and some that are clueless about it. Now this addiction is extremely dangerous worst than drugs id say because with drugs you can easily point out a junkie with a gambling addict you can't point out. I believe there should be a casino card that you insert and you should preload the card on weekly or monthly basis for your gambling fun (atleast addicts will know they have a problem and they will load it for minimum until that week is over for them to load again. For example" monday you load up your card for $500 and you cannot reload for second time for another 7days and every single casino should only accept that as to put credit into the machine and not cash. That way gambling business owners still will be making profit from this evil machines and so will the fkn government and gambling addicts will have the ultimate power in the end. Even if they lose what they loaded than they'd have to wait another week to reload again. It is impossible to ban yourself from casino here in sydney australia, lets just say every 2km drive you will find pokie machine (slot machines) in pubs, clubc, hotels, rsl, leagues, dooleys and than the casino itself. Now litterly every 2km there is atleast 3^ of those which makes it impossible to ban yourself from every single one it will take you a lifetime.
@andrewlimchunlee7090 Жыл бұрын
Ur suggestion on pre loaded cards is great but will never see the light of day.. Casinos overheads are too high and they won't turn a profit with ur suggestion. No casinos ever make money from casual and infrequent gamblers or small bets.. they depend on large losses and turning a casual gambler into an addict.. Dirty money and state sanctioned.. we are as a human species far far away from being humane.. Problem gambling hotlines, counselling etc is usually too late.. The only way is to never ever step foot into a casino.. do not rely on dirty money minded politicians to ever take on this "dirty" industry...

I do wish that folks that make these type of videos to help spread the word about compulsive gambling would leave out all visions of slot machines, and casino shots. I would like to share this video with GA's groups, but I wouldn't want to trigger someone with visual shots of slots machines spinning, and money going into machines. It may seem like such a trivial small thing, but as someone who is a compulsive gambler, and who has been through treatment, and sits in several GA meetings a week, I know that it doesn't take much sometimes to trigger folks into a relapse. Great video, great message, but would have been so much better without the unneeded visual shots of the slot machines.

The process where a person can 'sign themselves out' of a Casino and be met with legal consequences is ridiculous! The casinos don't regulate whom is on that list until said person attempts to collect winnings *above* some amount. Therefore, this is not stopping addicted persons from harming themselves further. Casinos want your money even if it hurts you. That they call it trespassing is a total gaff, because casinos will gladly allow you to 'trespass' as long as you are not collecting winnings *above* some certain amount. An addicted person is going to come back to a casino- even if they've signed themselves out. Further punishment is not helpful to those whom are truly addicted to casinos and gambling. ! *Casinos should not ALLOW people in if they have signed themselves out.* ! A quick name check against one's I.D. upon entry, run against an electronic database of names of those currently 'signed out', is an easy solution. ! Train employees to check IDs at entry and if someone is on the list have a prepared statement that the employee must use. ... something like " Your name appears on a list of persons whom have previously 'signed themselves out' of using this casino. This action is legally binding until (insert date). Any attempt to gamble at this casino before (repeat date) would be considered trespassing and legal action may be taken to address this. [I would strongly recommend sensitivity training about addiction be also mandatory for casino employees-- but especially those whom may act as one who checks IDs and will have to turn down guests for entry]

What you said is bullshit. If an excluded person hands a pit boss his ratings card, he'll be discovered the moment that card is swiped.

I'm a compulsive gambler..yup its all our fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah right!!!!This nightmare has destroyed my life!!! I have been going to treatment since 95..when the VLT'S came out in Canada. Talk about terrorism..who knew how much suffering was going to come out of this. Will be starting in another treatment centre next week. Its a progressive illness so I'm told. God bless the people who have suffered..family, friends, employers and the victims. Put warning labels on these machines like how they advertise for prescription drugs on TV..

I feel for you Brenda, and I can totally relate to you. :( The gambling industry and the addiction and devastation it causes are the worst! I hope your gambling treatment goes well, and I hope you can escape the evil clutches of gambling and all the devastation, heartache, and stress that it causes.

Sad thing is the very people who govern our countries and claim to protect us allow such industries to not only exist but thrive...

Crushing to watch a smart lady who can’t dig her way out of this addiction. So sad, I would think there is a chemical imbalance that has to be dealt with as the brain has withdrawals from gambling and rushes back to the betting for the high.

Sadly until this day, this nefarious industry and the dirty tactics they resort to, to make people addicted are state sanctioned..

38:40 - I would have given her legal advice to plead guilty. It is impossible to win this criminal case. I suppose she could plead "Insanity", and she would be able to live slightly better life in a "Mental Hospital" rather than a rat-infested prison building, but it's futile to plead "NOT GUILTY". It would be absolutely impossible to win a criminal case regarding "Embezzlement" when there is so many witnesses and banking records. The government has given her no other options. There is good news though, the Prosecutor will probably get a promotion for winning the criminal case. The Prosecutor will probably have an "Office Party" to celebrate the job promotion. The good news is that the "Prosecutor" had won the "Jackpot" this time!
