The language used within laws, such as The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998, can be a little confusing for some.
This series of five videos is to break down some of the key requirements of LOLER 1998, and provide some explanation, to make them easier to understand for those working within lifting operations.

It's open to interpretation though Graeme - that's the problem, isn't it. Some may use that in an attempt to excuse negligence though.

Kevin i have a question,, If im lifting a 10 ton load on a 2 point lift, do my chains/ slings have to be 10ton slings and chains or would i be allowed to use 2x 7.5 ton chains/slings ? 2 individual slings/chains not a set of two leggers. ??? What im trying to say is does each sling or chain have to be at least able to lift 10t or when using the mode factor you can use 2x 7.5t chains or slings Thanks in advance

If the angle between the two legs is within 90 degrees and each leg is equally loaded, the calculation is 10/1.4 = 7.15t WLL per leg. if between 90-120 degrees, each has to be good for at least 10t.
