So deep. So... thick with knowledge. It’s crazy that our basic instincts as a species can get so mixed up!

He asked a fantastic question...about how to present a need/request to a guy who takes almost everything as criticism/control...and I don’t feel she answered it well. I wanted a direct, actionable answer and she skirted around a bit.

Best to let him learn to grow up on his own. It's a tough question to answer perfectly because people (men) each are different.

@@adj5767 yeah...I’d love to do that. However, we coparent a child together. I’d be more than happy to never, ever interact with him again. He has Aspergers, so communication is very difficult. He really has no interest in personal growth. The neuropsychologist, who diagnosed him, basically said...I’d be in a stagnant misery if i chose to stay. I try to be congenial and nice...but the lack of ability to see others perspective and also the pervasive negative lens, that he often has..makes it hard at times.

@@Alphacentauri819 Aaah! but you see - someone with Aspergers or autism, or other any other illness or injury that scrambles the "behavioral" signals, generally does not conform to what's generally considered "normal" and therefore also doesn't respond as you would expect. I have a son that had severe OCD as a teen and young adult, and still deals with it, although [thankfully] not to the level as it once was [grateful for that every day]. You just come to grips with it, that this is what it is - and either live with it, or minimize the interaction to the barest necessity, if you cannot avoid it all together. You cannot change him - but YOU CAN CHANGE THE WAY YOUR REACT to him!

I’ve never tried to hug, or pet, a guy who’s upset... lord. I think that some of the generalizations need to be addressed here.
